I glance up quickly before my gaze returns to his chin.

“Princess, look at me,” he demands, and I force my gaze to meet his.

“You did not kill your parents.”

“But—”

“No,” he cuts me off. “You are not to blame for their deaths. They died in a car accident.”

“But they wouldn’t have been out on the roads in such bad weather if it weren’t for me.”

He sighs. “What would you do if Diva was sick? Really sick. She’s throwing up and shitting everywhere.”

“I’d take her to the vet.”

“But she’s going to make a mess on your leather seats.”

I slap him. “I don’t care about my stupid leather seats. They can be cleaned. I love Diva. If she’s sick, I’m going to help her.”

“Which is exactly how your parents felt.”

I want to snap at him – he didn’t know my mom and dad – but he’s making a good point. The same one Beckett made in fact. Could it be true? Am I truly not to blame for my parents’ death?

“Oh, baby,” he says and wraps his arms around me and squishes me to his body. I feel his cock harden, but when I reach for it, he growls. “No. Stop trying to distract me.”

Damnit. He’s a man. He’s supposed to be easily distracted by sex. Of course, I had to fall in love with a man who knows me to my core.

“It’s okay. You don’t have to say the words.”

I lean back to look him in the eyes. “How do you know what I was thinking?”

“Princess, I know you.”

I shoot daggers out of my eyes at him. They must be defective because he laughs.

“Do you understand now how you didn’t kill your parents?”

“Maybe.” I shrug.

“You’re not alone. I abandoned my hometown and my family because I thought my parents didn’t love me based on one thing they said when they were overwhelmed with raising two teenage prodigies.”

“Prodigies? You’re a prodigy now, are you?”

“Yep. And this prodigy will remind you how you didn’t kill your parents and how you deserve love as many times as you need to hear it.” He taps my forehead. “Until it sinks into your stubborn brain.”

“I’m not stubborn,” I say proving I am indeed stubborn.

“And I haven’t been avoiding my brother Rowan for over a decade.”

I blow out a puff of air. “Is this how it’s going to be from now on? We’re going to share feelings and talk about serious stuff.”

“Don’t look so disgusted.” He chuckles. “Besides, maybe I’ll reward you for sharing your feelings.”

His gaze meets mine and his is full of anticipation. I know he’s waiting for me to say I love him. I even open my mouth to speak the words, but nothing comes out.

He brushes the hair from my forehead. “Don’t worry. When you’re ready, I’ll be here. I’m a patient man.”

Good thing because he may be waiting a long time.
