“She’s trying to get pregnant. She doesn’t want to listen to my sob story.”

“Have you met our baby sister? She’s going to be pissed you came to me instead of her.”

“Pissed? Gabrielle doesn’t get mad.”

“Did you forget Christmas?”

Gabrielle insisted on holding Christmas at the farmhouse she lives in with Phoenix. She decided she was going to put on the best Christmas ever. She went a little overboard and ended up having a meltdown. It was hilarious. I won twenty bucks for predicting she’d throw the turkey at Phoenix.

“She wasn’t mad. She was overwhelmed.”

“Are you going to tell me what happened or are we going to analyze our baby sister’s personality all night?”

“I was late.”

When she doesn’t continue, I push her. “And?”

“And I thought I was pregnant. I’m never late. I got super excited about having a baby.”

“You’ve always wanted children.”

“Yeah.” She smiles and I hold in my cringe. Kids are not for me.

“But you’re not pregnant?”

She plays with the label on her beer. “I got my period today.”

“I’m sorry.” I squeeze her hand. “What did River say?”

“He doesn’t know.”

“He doesn’t know? You’re a freaking mess and the man you’re living with doesn’t know?”

“He was at Rowan’s watching the game.”

I stand. “Go home. Now.”

“You’re kicking me out?”

I herd her toward the door. “I’m not kicking you out. I’m ordering you to go home.”

“Semantics.”

“You need to discuss this with River. He needs to know.”

“But he didn’t want children until a month ago. What if he thinks I’m trying to trap him?”

I bark out a laugh. “Trap him? He moved you into his house without your knowledge. The man is good and whipped.”

She bites her bottom lip. “You don’t think he’ll be mad?”

“If you don’t go tell him what’s going on with you, he’s going to be mad.”

“Okay. Okay. I’m going already.”

I open the door and shove her out of it.

“I’m sorry,” she hollers before entering the elevator.
