"Is there an age limit for this?" he paused, although I could see on his face that the confusion wasn't genuine.

"You should leave it to the youth though," I maintained and forked a piece of frittata into my mouth. It was nothing short of amazing.

"Ha. Do you know how old I am?" he sneered.

"Do you want me to guess?"

"Your wildest."

"Forty-five," I grinned. At this point he just ignored me and took his seat on the couch to my right, looking at the screen to customize the gameplay.

"I was kidding," I laughed. "Thirty," I tried again.

"Not bad," he shrugged.

"I got it?" I beamed.

"No. But you were close. I'll be twenty-eight in about three weeks," he said after a brief hesitation where he counted his fingers.

"When exactly?"

The twenty-eighth of this month."

"Huh. I'm disappointed though. I thought you'd be younger."

"I thank God I'm not," he chuckled.

"Why not? Imagine having all this wealth when you're like twenty-five."

"Well, imagine the responsibility that comes with wealth. I don't think I'd be able to handle it at that age." His answer shut me up and made me think. What did he do?

"What about you?" He stuffed his mouth with a large forkful of frittata and looked expectantly at me.

"Oh, me? I don't think I have much resp..."

"I was talking about your age." He always had this dull scornful look when expressing sarcasm. Something that low-key pissed me off, but I was going to have to get used to it.

"Twenty-three." I focused now, more on the game that just started, not wanting him to take the lead. An early lead mattered in games like Call of Duty. I also thought that if I distracted him with small talk, he'd lose a little concentration to my advantage.

"So... Allie..."

"Don't ever call me that," he gave a warning growl.

"Okay... whatever. Sheesh!" I shushed. I wanted to taunt him more with the name but opted to ask him my question instead. "What's this 'responsibility' you have at such a young age?"

"I thought you said I was old."

I almost face-palmed myself but I realized I held a controller in my hands. "I was kidding!" I tried to imitate his expression, doubting it looked as annoyingly good on me as it did him.

"Family business," he answered my question.

"Okay?"

"Okay."

"Ugh. You're not an easy person to distract," I chuckled.

He gave a short grunt and continued tapping his buttons and twirling his joystick with rapidity.
