“Okay.” I furrowed my brows. “What’s going on with your friend?”

“I can’t say anything right now, but we need to come to the medical center tomorrow. You name the time.”

“The medical center is closed tomorrow. It’s Sunday, Aunt Barb.”

“I know that, Jackson. You own the place, and if you need to see patients on a Sunday, you can. I would never ask this of you if it wasn’t extremely important.”

“Sure. Okay. How about tomorrow morning at ten o’clock.”

“That’s fine. Thank you.” She kissed my cheek. “This conversation never happened, and nobody is to know what I’m asking of you. Do you understand me?”

“Aunt Barb.” I sighed.

“Jackson, I’m serious.”

“Hey, you two!” Sebastian shouted from a few feet away. It’s time.”

“Jackson?” She cocked her head.

“I understand.”

She walked ahead of me back into the room. I didn’t know what the hell was going on, and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to.

“Here’s your box, Jackson. Where were you?” Georgia asked.

“I’ll tell you later.”

We all gathered in front of Nathan, Sofia, and Ella as they stood on each side of the large black bag that hung from the ceiling and held the small square boxes in our hands.

“When I count to three, Nathan, Sofia, and Ella will pull the strings on the bag, and when the balloons start to fall, you will remove the lid from your boxes. Are you ready?” Georgia exclaimed with a smile. “One. Two. Three!”

Nathan held Ella as the three of them pulled the strings on the bag, and blue balloons began to fall. We all lifted the lids to the box we held, and blue butterflies flew out of it. Everyone shouted with excitement. In a few more months, we would welcome baby boy Kind. I walked up to Sofia, kissed her cheek, and hugged her tight.

“Congratulations, sweetheart.”

“Thanks, Jackson.” A bright grin crossed her face.

Turning to my brother, I hugged him.

“You’re having a son,” I spoke.

“I can’t believe it.” Nathan grinned.

“And you,” I picked Ella up, “you’re going to have a brother.”

“I know. I’m so excited, Uncle Jackson.”

Simon walked over, hooked his arm around Nathan, and pulled him into him.

“You did it, cousin. I never doubted you for a second.” He pressed his lips against the side of his head. “Way to keep the Kind name going. Congratulations.”

“Thanks, Simon.” Nathan chuckled. “I’m really happy.”

“Now, it’s up to you.” Simon glanced at Shaun.

“Not much I can do about it now.” Shaun laughed. “What’s done is done, bro.”

I couldn’t stop thinking about my conversation with Aunt Barb, and whatever was going on, there would be hell to pay when the others found out I knew and didn’t say anything. After we celebrated with more alcohol and a beautiful cake that Sebastian’s pastry chef made, we headed home.
