“Okay. Let’s begin,” I said.

Looking up at my brothers, all three gave me a nod while Ella gave me a thumbs up.

“How’s it looking, Dr. Kind?” Jamieson asked.

“I’m getting there,” I spoke as I carefully snipped pieces of the tumor from the bottom and set them in the dish.

“I got a good grip from the top,” Jamieson said.

“Slowly start pulling up, Dr. Finn,” I spoke. “Stop!”

The sounds of the machine went erratic.

“His pressure is bottoming out, Dr. Kind.”

“Jackson, you have twenty seconds,” Jamieson said.

“I’m aware, Dr. Finn. Just give me—now! It’s ready for extraction.”

“Well, look at you, you nasty thing. Did you really think we’d let you make a home in this man’s brain?” He held up the tumor as Ian’s vitals stabilized.

Everyone in the room clapped as I let out a deep breath and smiled at Jamieson.

“Let’s get this man closed up and call it a day.” Jamieson smiled.

I looked up at the operating suite and saw Georgia sitting there with a wide grin across her face. The surgery took a total of nine hours, and after Jamieson and I scrubbed out, I hugged him.

“Thanks, Jamieson. It was an honor operating with you.

“Don’t mention it. I’m the one who’s honored. I hope we get to work together again. Don’t be a stranger.” He pointed at me as he walked away.

I walked out of the O.R. and went to the surgical waiting room.

“Jackson, how is he?” Aunt Barb jumped up from her chair.

“He’s stable. His brain is very swollen, so I’m keeping him in a medically induced coma for about a week to let the swelling go down.”

“And?”

“We won’t know anything until he wakes up.”

“Thank you.” She hugged me tightly.

“Bro.” Conner walked over and hugged me. “Fuck, that was incredible.”

“Thanks, bro.”

Grayson and Gabriel walked over, and each of them hugged me.

“We can’t thank you enough,” Gabriel said.

“Yeah. You and Dr. Finn were incredible,” Grayson spoke. “I’m hoping one day we can operate together.”

“I’d like that.” I smiled. “How long are the two of you staying?”

“Through the week,” Gabriel said.

“Good. Just enough time for all of us to get to know you better.” I smiled.
