"Me too," Dominik chimed in, plopping back down.

Altair's jaw clenched, his knuckles turning white. "Our father is still out there, likely lurking in some forgotten corner of a desolate realm. The instant he finds out we're gone, he'll try to reclaim the kingdom."

"And snatch our queen once he learns of her powers," I snarled through gritted teeth.

"I'll end him before then," Dominik spat, ready for battle.

I shook my head fervently. "We can't wait here for Sadie to save us," I declared.

Dominik hastily rose to his feet. "If anyone has to be the sacrifice, it should be me," he said solemnly.

"Maybe we all have to sacrifice ourselves in the end just to break free," I stated.

"But then we'll become shadows, never able to take a physical form again." Altair's voice was tight with emotion. "Sadie is worth it to me. What say you, brothers?"

Chapter 10

Sadie

Iknew before teleporting back to the Earth realm what I was getting myself into it. But something told me that this vampire lord knew a lot more than I did.

Now, armed with the knowledge that he was involved in my sister's disappearance, I had to find a way to confront him. It would not be easy - no one simply went and challenged a vampire lord without expecting repercussions. But where there is will there must be a way, and so I set about devising an appropriate plan of action for when it came time to challenge the mysterious figure I saw in Aunt Naima's magical mirror which had been plaguing my every thought these days.

I began by researching all known information about vampires – their habits, abilities and weaknesses; anything that could give me an edge come face-to-face confrontation.

Once satisfied that I knew what I was up against—at least as much as you can expect—it dawned on me just how dangerous this endeavor before me truly was - challenging someone who thrived off fear meant playing their game…and so did any small advantage count toward more success than failure?

My father always taught me that if you wanted something done, you had to do it yourself. Well, that was exactly what I wasgoing to do, and I was going to skip the middle men. I already knew where the vampire mansion sat, which was likely where the vampire lord resided. There was no need in hoping I'd get some formal invite, because I wouldn't.

The mansion was a magnificent castle of stone, with towers that stretched for the heavens and sloping roofs stacked atop one another like a child's building blocks. The villa spread out in all directions, covering a wide swath of land, and yet the grounds felt compact, even claustrophobic—the impeccably manicured gardens were crowded together so closely that it was impossible to see the space between them. A hush lay over everything, as if it were waiting to be broken by sound.

The vampire's mansion was said to be home to creatures from all corners of the world, a haven for those who sought refuge from the mundane and ordinary. As I prepared myself for my visit, I could feel excitement building within me.

Vampires and witches usually kept their distance from one another, but over the past 50 years, I heard that the two sides had started to come together. My coven never wanted anything to do with vampires, but I heard of two witch covens that were under my late father's rule had made diplomatic agreements with certain clans of vampires.

I stepped out of the car and onto the gravel of the vampire's mansion. There was a chill in the air, and the light of the full moon cast eerie shadows across the grounds. I felt a presence watching me, so I made my way cautiously up to the entrance. As I got closer, a group of vampires suddenly appeared, baring their sharp teeth in a menacing grin. Their eyes glowed an unnatural red in the darkness, and I could feel their sinister presence looming over me.

I could feel their menacing presence as they closed in around me like vultures. I could sense their eagerness to sink their razor-sharp fangs into me and drink my essence. I was thankfulfor the protective aura I had conjured up before coming here, as it was all that kept me from being devoured right there on the spot by their overwhelming power.

"Wait", I said, steadying my voice despite the fear in my heart. "I'm not here to fight- I simply wish to speak with your vampire lord."

The vampires glanced at each other and then at me.

"She's lying!" one exclaimed. "The last witch that came here hexed us."

At the mention of last witch, I couldn't help but to think of Sydney. Where they talking about her or some other witch?

The creature lunged towards me, claws out, getting dangerously close for my liking. I dug deep and found the courage to weave a spell of light around them- one so strong that even these powerful beings could not escape it.

They didn't look surprised this time. "Why are you hear, witch?"

"Nostro," I repeated. "I will only speak to Nostro."

The vampires exchanged glances again, as if deciding on something. After a few moments more of tense silence, one stepped forward and said in a deep voice: "We'll take you to him."

A shiver ran down my spine at the thought of this powerful vampire lord- what would he have me do?

"Right this way, to his champers," one said. Another was only inches behind me and I could feel his breath fanning across my neck. I sensed their hunger and I knew they could smell my blood.
