I heard his footsteps coming toward me. My instincts pulled me to him like a magnet.

"Morpheus...? I can't see you."

My breath quickened and my heart raced as he called for me again. I was overcome with a sudden, overwhelming urge to get to him, as if invisible threads bound us together. With one last burst of energy, I ran to him, eager to feel his familiar embrace.

I flung myself towards him, desperately wrapping my arms and legs around him like I was never letting go. The feeling of relief was so intense it felt like I hadn't seen him for a hundred years. Tears streamed down my face as I held him tight, rejoicing in his embrace.

"I did it again. I'm here."

My heart raced as Dom and Altair approached, their shadows thickening as they stepped into the twilight. I was like a kid in a candy stores as all three men lavished me with love.

"What is this place?" I shuddered, looking around the cave. Thoughts of what they'd faced in this dark abyss made me shudder. My eyes darted around the cave and I couldn't help but feel a chill deep in my marrow as I took in the surroundings. The stale air clung to me like a blanket, and the eeriness of this place was palpable.

Morpheus’ face was solemn as he uttered the words, "We don't know. This is the first time we've been here but it seems like a good place to...let go."

"Let go? What do you mean...let go?"

Dominik let out a heaving sigh and ran his fingers through the fiery red hair. His body tensed, and I could feel the tension radiating off of him like a forcefield. I knew something bad was coming.

Altair took both of my hands in his. "We've decided that one of us might have to become shadows to bring the place down. To weaken it."

I pondered his words for a moment. At first, it didn't seem to make sense. I thought they were already shadow demons, but then I understood what he was really saying. To his kind, turning into a shadow was equivalent to disappearing forever. I remembered the dark creatures who had attacked the vampires and branded my back—they were shadows, just like this.

I woke up in the vampire mansion without any signs of the branding, yet I knew it was still there. Not in physical form, since it was a magical mark; it was possible it only showed up under certain situations. I had checked and re-checked, but could find no trace of the mark. It seemed to be concealed from view.

I shook my head. "I don't understand."

"If one or two remains, we can absorb the power and return. It'll be enough to break the spell and return to Shadow World," Altair exclaimed.

"No...you don't need to do something like that. There's another way. It's why I'm here. I worked on a spell for two days and I'm going to try it."

With a viciousness determined by love not hate Morpheus cut off my protests with strength proclaiming, ”There isn’t any other way, Sadie…this is how it has got to go. That's why there are three of us. If one of us—"

I pressed a finger to his lips. "No. Don't say it. I have enough energy. I don't need to take more from you. Please...let me try before I'm swept out again."

With a silent yet powerful understanding, they gave me a nod. I reached into my apron and felt the dried rose petals lightly brushing my fingertips. The petals seemed to contain hope itself; they promised me an escape from this realm. I knelt without flinching, despite the sharp rocks digging into my skin like thorns. My men had formed a powerful cocoon of energy around me and though I was tempted to draw from them, this was a task I had to with powers of my own.

My whispers grew into a raging chant, each word reverberating powerfully through the air. Fire began dancing around me and I could feel every molecule of the void shiver in anticipation of what was about to come.

Repetition became tiring as I gave it my all, attempting to break through the invisible force that kept the void intact, but each time I tried, something seemed to tug in the opposite direction as if it wanted to hold my loves captive.

Unfortunately, nothing happened when I finished casting the spell. It had been for naught. The disappointment showed on all three faces.

"Sadie, it's not working because you're not supposed to sacrifice yourself here," Altair stated.

"Altair is right." Morpheus placed a hand on my shoulder. "Your talents are better served in Shadow World and on earth."

They hid behind their loyalty-filled visage, encouraging me even in defeat, knowing this thing wasn't something I could tackle easily.

"Fucking dammit," I cursed, throwing a handful of rocks at the wall.

Dominik pulled me to my feet and kissed my forehead. "Calm yourself. Rage inside will only drain your powers."

I sighed. "Well, I guess I'll go back to the drawing board, so before this blasted void kicks me out, I have lots to tell you. I didn't get to last time, but you need to know what's going on."

"Right." Altair nodded. "We can't see what's going on and that's almost as irritating as being tossed about from location to location without warning."

"Where do I start?" I sat down on a boulder and crossed one leg over the other. I didn't miss the appreciate stares that all three gave me. I wasn't even trying to seduce them, but they were still very much hungry for all the carnal things we did together. I wouldn't fault them—they were sex demons and energy from intimacy fed them. It wasn't like I wasn't craving them—if they weren't where they were currently, I would be demanding all three ravish me until I couldn't take it anymore.
