King Madden snaps at him, growling.

Noah jerks his hand back. "What the fuck!"

"Hey! It's okay, sweetie. This is Noah," I say, repositioning King Madden farther from Noah and petting him until he quiets.

"Jesus, don't let him act like that to Scratch," Noah states, then accelerates down the road.

"He's really sweet. He's just protective of me," I claim.

Noah grunts and then flies through a red light, barely missing a car.

"Whoa!" I cry out. I'm used to Riggs's crazy driving, but he's never been this aggressive.

"Sorry, on a time crunch," he declares and turns up the music.

I secure my seat belt.

Noah taps the steering wheel, runs another red light, and I glance at the odometer.

"Can you slow down a tad?" I ask.

He pushes the pedal, and the odometer increases by another ten miles per hour.

"Noah!" I reprimand.

He ignores me and turns the music higher.

King Madden angrily barks and growls, his head turned toward Noah.

I try to calm him, but Noah's driving continues to scare me. He gets on the expressway, weaves in and out of the heavy L.A. traffic, then goes on the shoulder and races down the lane.

"What are you doing?" I cry out.

"Calm down. Scratch is waiting," he orders.

"You're scaring me!" I admit.

"Don't be," he replies as he remains on the shoulder and races past traffic.

My stomach spins. I slide my hand into my purse to see if Riggs has responded to my texts. Plus, I want him to pick me up from wherever Noah takes me. I'm never getting in a car with him again.

But I can't. My phone is nowhere, and I squeeze my eyes shut, cringing. I must have left it on the counter when I put King Madden into the pet purse.

He barks louder at Noah, and I tug him toward me, trying to calm him, but nothing works. His barks intensify.

Noah veers off the expressway, races through town, and pulls into a parking garage. He turns the engine off.

I slap his shoulder.

"Ouch!" he shouts.

"You're an asshole. You could have killed us!" I accuse.

He grins. "But I didn't, did I?"

I glare at him.

"Jeez, Blakely. I've seen Riggs drive. Don't be such a hypocrite," he taunts.
