He hesitates.

"Riggs, don't you dare keep this from me," I warn.

He glances at the ceiling, shifts on the bed, then answers, "I traced Noah's phone. But Colton is the one who told Kalim and me where he took you."

Shock fills me. "Colton?"

Riggs nods. "Yes. He's been to the penthouse before."

Goose bumps break out on my skin. I ask, "Why did Noah take him there?"

"That's a story for another day, pet," Riggs asserts.

His tone tells me not to push it. I study him and ask, "How did you get me out of there?"

Darkness overpowers his expression. He says nothing, pinning his blues on mine.

A chill runs through my body. I demand, "I want to know what happened."

He slowly licks his lips, staying quiet.

"Riggs, tell me," I insist.

He glances behind him at the closed door, then takes a deep breath. "This can never be repeated."

"Of course not," I assure him, my gut diving. Whatever he's going to tell me, I'm sure it's bad.

He keeps his voice low, stating, "They're dead."

Shock fills me, yet it shouldn't. The only way I got out of there alive was by their deaths. There's no way I could have escaped. So I take a minute to process his statement, then question, "You killed them, or did Kalim?"

He sniffs hard, stares at me, and stays quiet.

"You did?" I push.

His jaw twitches. He answers, "I'm not going to discuss the details. All you need to know is that the situation's been taken care of and no one will ever know what happened."

My chest tightens. I gaze out the window and then ask, "Is that why I'm here instead of a hospital?"

"Yes."

"And what did they drug me with?" I inquire.

More anger flares in his voice. He answers, "The date rape drug. The doctor said you'll be fine, but it's important we get a lot of water and electrolytes in you. And you need rest. Lots of rest."

"Is that why I have a headache?"

He nods. "Yes. It should go away in a day or so."

Tears well in my eyes again. I choke out, "Thank you for finding me." I sob, and tears fall onto King Madden's fur.

Riggs tugs me into his arms. He admits, "I can't ever lose you, pet."

"I shouldn't have gone with him. It's my fault," I claim.

"Shhh. No, it's not!"

"You warned me about him!"
