I soften my tone. "Tell me what you see."

He stares at me with a sad expression, still full of hurt, and it scares me. He admits, "I see a husband who would do anything for his wife. And he wants his wife back, no matter what. But the wife only wants her husband when it's convenient for her."

"What? Riggs, no! That's not—"

"Don't give me more of your excuses, Blakely! I've apologized until I'm blue in the face. I took the blame for what I did. I don't know what else to do. But you... Fuck, pet. Congratulations. You fooled me."

"Fooled you?"

His lips tremble and he nods. The anger reignites in his eyes, and he continues, "I believed everything you ever uttered to me. When I made my vow to you, I meant it. You, on the other hand... You didn't mean a goddamn word."

My voice cracks. "That's not true!"

"You just admitted it!"

"No, I didn't. I-I..."

He crosses his arms, seething, "You can't even argue I'm wrong because you know it's true."

"You aren't being fair," I claim.

"I'm not being fair? Me? I'm not the one who lied on our wedding day!" he barks, his eyes wild with rage and hurt.

I gape at him, unsure what to say or how to make things better. All I can do is repeat, "I didn't lie. I meant my vow. I do love you."

My statement only makes him angrier. He prods, "Then why haven't you accepted me and all my faults, Blakely? Hmm?"

I need time to think. I never saw things the way Riggs does, and I need some time to decipher it.

He takes my silence the wrong way. He walks to the table and picks up his phone and wallet. He slides them into his pocket, then heads to the closet.

Fear fills me. I follow him and grab his arm. "Riggs, what are you doing?"

He removes his coat from the closet, then shrugs out of my grasp, firmly stating, "I need some air."

"It's freezing outside," I blurt out, then reach for him.

He grabs my hands, lowers his voice, and warns, "Don't touch me right now, pet."

"Riggs, don't go! Stay here and—"

"And what, Blakely? We'll do what?" he barks.

I freeze, quivering inside, unsure what to say to get him to stay.

He steps backward, then adds, "I'm not touching you again, pet. You need to decide if you want me or not."

"I do want you. It's not about that!" I insist.

He squeezes his eyes shut and takes a few breaths. He opens his eyes and pins them on me and states, "Figure out if you're capable of keeping your vow. If you're not, I'll let you go."

"Riggs, that's not—"

He opens the door and steps out into the hallway. He firmly shuts it, and by the time I finally react and open the door, he's gone.

I wait up all night. When the sun begins to rise, I call him, but it goes to his voicemail. I text him.

Me: Riggs, where are you?
