I glance at him. "What—"

He puts his finger over my lips, ordering, "Just watch it."

I turn back and obey. I watch him pouring wax on my body, flogging me, and then he's on top of me.

He leans into my ear. "I also recorded this to watch you. I miss you. There's nothing better than watching you when you're at my mercy." He turns on the volume and my moans fill the air.

I squeeze my thighs tighter, and he slides my hands between them, saying, "I made this for us. For you and me to watch. And I see what this does to you. It does the same thing to me, pet. But I can assure you that this is staying between you and me. Do you understand?"

"How can I trust you on that?" I blurt out.

Agony rips through his features.

I hate that I've asked him that. I detest that I've created that look.

He replies, "Because I will never do anything to hurt you again. I will always protect you to a degree I failed to do so with your father. And I need you to return to trusting me. Please."

A tear falls down my cheek. I swipe at it, confessing, "I want that to be true, Riggs."

"It is," he claims and turns the video off. He tosses his phone on the table.

I turn back toward the ocean, looking far past the break of the waves and into the calm chaos. Can it really be this easy? Can I just trust him again?

The server comes onto the balcony. She sets my pancakes and his omelet on the table and chirps, "Is there anything else I can get for you?"

"Pet?" Riggs asks.

I shake my head and force a smile. "No. Thank you so much."

She looks at Riggs.

He answers, "All set. Thank you."

She leaves, and more silence fills the air, creating tension between us.

Riggs quietly orders, "Eat before your food gets cold."

I obey, barely tasting the lemon ricotta pancakes since I'm so lost in thought.

The silence continues, and I'm unsure if we're farther apart or closer together.

Did he really create the video for only us?

Can I trust he won't do anything with it?

We finish our breakfast, not saying anything else about last night. Riggs pays the check. He leads me out of the restaurant. We walk down the street to the market.

He normally looks ready to leave at any given moment, but today, he's engaged. He appears genuinely happy to be there with me.

I love it, but it also hurts my heart. I normally bounce through the booths, but I'm a little more cautious today, barely looking at the items. There's just too much on my mind.

Riggs tugs me into him and says, "Pet."

I arch my eyebrows. "Yeah?"

He takes both hands and places them on my face. He kisses me and says, "I want you to enjoy today." His lips turn into a small smile.

"I am," I claim.
