Daddy places a robe around my shoulders as he steps out of the shower, making sure that I’m dried and comfortable with the remaining collected heat from the shower’s welcome warmth. A gentle smile crosses his face before his hands take a towel for himself, wasting no time in trying to get into one of the robes as well.

We find ourselves on the bed later, looking out at the rest of the city from the comfort of the top sheet, the comforter having been pushed to the floor and entirely off the bed. My hand is gently clasped within his, the silence between us providing nothing more than a sensation of bliss and peace as we look over the night lights, cars darting up and down the busy roads, the distant siren, slowly witnessing the lights of apartment buildings going out one by one.

Iwish I always have this peace.

Even touching her hand, Camilla’s companionship is not something I wish to give up so easily. My aspirations to keep going with the businesses all across Boston are only cemented with the fact that I want to provide for my interests, to build a life with the girl that I thought I’d never find. Now, she lies next to me on the bed, gently looking out over the same nightscape that I am. Had I not gone after her old man’s car, nothing would’ve happened this way.

“Hey,” I mutter, getting her attention. I’m almost certain she turns to me out of the corner of my eye, but I can’t bring myself to take my eyes off of the cityscape. My thoughts homogenize into one course of action for the next day, something that I’ll forbid no matter what for the sake of our family.

“Yeah?” Camilla questions after a moment, assuming that I’m going to continue after I break the silence. I hesitate, trying to consider if the words that are about to leave my mouth are going to be the correct ones.

I can’t revoke this once I say it.

If anyone, she’s the one that’s going to hold me accountable.

This would make… a massive difference. A huge deal at a loss for myself.

“I’m not a person who normally gives up for charity,” I start, finally looking at her as my hand grips hers. “But… I think that we should give your old man a visit sometime soon.”

“What does that have to do with charity?” She furrows her forehead, not quite understanding what I’m talking about, only to realize what I’m implying a few moments later. Her eyes light up as she lets out a gasp, incredibly excited at the fact that I would do what I said, already feeling the sensation of the obligation sinking in.

There’s no going back now that I’ve said it, even though this was meant to be an easy mark.

At the end of the day, Hammond did have to raise his daughter on his own, apparently, on his income only. And this is how she’s turned out. Her gentle pats on my arm indicating her excitement and thanks are enough to melt my heart, something I never thought possible.

I’ve never felt anything quite like this about a girl, no matter what the circumstances were before, let alone another human being. She makes me want to do things I’ve never even considered before. This should throw me off my game, but somehow, I’m okay with it.

“I’m just going to tell your father he can forget about the whole thing.” She’s utterly ecstatic with this information, realizing purely that business is business and our relationship is separate, but the crossing of wires in this case is something that only I could have decided at the end of the day. I will have to close out the whole deal and logs when I get back to the dealership tomorrow, then tell him what the deal is. “Think it’ll be better off if we get him in a better circumstance too. Not just you.”

“You’re pretty nice… for a mob boss.” She giggles, snuggling close to my arm. I lift my arm and wrap it around her shoulders, and her body presses against my side, the only thing separating our skin is the fabric of the robe itself. I take a moment to look at her once over, knowing full well that this is going to come up eventually.

“What gave it away?” I question, wondering where I went wrong. It’s not quite a secret that we’re the mob, everyone around knows to some degree that we’re an organized group, but even so, it's not like we’re doing anything that would have garnered police attention. Simple sales, quick reaction time, repos, loans with paper backing… all the kinds of things finance companies do. The only thing that must have been very apparent to her was when I dealt with the now-completely removed member who lived in one of the houses alone. Beaten to a pulp, we left him and all his items on the road, and he was gone by the end of the day.

“Oh, the whole creed and rules thing,” she replies, getting her fair share of entertainment from calling it far from the name that it was originally awarded. “I figured it was something like that, and then I put a little more thought into it like how you were interacting with everyone at the office and how you guys were dealing with my dad when he was trying to get his hands on the car in the first place. It just worked out in a way that I was secretly hoping it was the case, especially yesterday when I was convinced.”

“Yeah, I can see that being a pretty good giveaway.” If she has an issue with who and what I am, she would have left already. She stays for the reason she hopes. She remains in the hotel room for whatever reason she has in mind. She stays in the life that I built for her and could leave, given that she’s finally moved to make some strides in the right direction.

But she did not. She did no such thing.

Here she is, cuddled closely up to me on the side of the bed, laughing at the discovery of a not-so-well-hidden secret.

And she’s mine.

With gentle preparationscomplete for the night, we share the large bed for the first time, adjusted into a gentle sleepwear, my girl having to get used to wearing something when she goes to sleep. She’s made quite a few comments about how not wearing a bra when she goes to sleep is something far different, as she had no other clothes to change into back home.

Now, she’s reaching her arms out to me as I begin to get on to the bed, similarly in a pair of much more comfortable pajama pants without a shirt on, her hugging me tightly as I lie down next to her.

“Daddy,”she whispers, only the light from the city granting the only visible light in the room, an incredibly soft blue accompanying only the partially filled moon in the distance. Her eyes are trying to find mine in the semi-darkness, both of our faces only barely visible in the night.

“Yeah?” My arms go around and underneath her, drawing her into a gentle hug as she similarly tries to hold me close.

“Are you sure about what you said you were going to do about my dad’s debt?”
