I glance up from the floor and Lee’s looking at me with wide eyes, his hip resting on the counter and his arms crossed over that mouthwatering chest of his.

“What?” My forehead wrinkles.

“Nothing.”

“You’re looking at me weird.”

He sighs and pushes his hand through his hair, which makes his waves poofy. Another great look on him. This fresh-out-of-bed, messy-hair thing really works for him, just as well as the tuxedo one.

“You’ll get mad if I say it.”

Now I’m really intrigued. I raise an eyebrow.

“It’s just that… you’re sexy as fuck in my clothes.”

Heat flares in my body. My cheeks, my breasts, between my legs. “Oh… thanks.”

He frowns. “Anyway, I just came in to grab a drink too. There’s water in the fridge if you prefer filtered.” Lee walks over to the fridge and pulls out a bottle of water, gesturing toward me with it.

I nod and he slides it down the island counter. “Thanks.”

“No problem.” He turns to leave the kitchen.

For some reason, I don’t want him to leave. All this unsettled business between us is brimming inside me. If we don’t talk tonight, I’m not going to get any sleep.

“Lee, wait.”

He stops with his back to me but doesn’t turn around.

“I think… I think you were right.”

“About what?” He keeps his back to me. All his muscles look tense, as though he’s worried about what I’m going to say.

“We should try to move forward.”

He whips around, his eyebrows high and his mouth open. “For real?”

I hold up my hand. “As friends though.” I step forward. “Yeah. I’m willing to put aside what happened in college and move forward from this point on as coworkersandfriends. I mean, not the kind that hang out all the time or anything, but two people who share a mutual past and work together.”

“And what made you change your mind?” His cocky smirk is about to shine any moment, I can tell.

“It’s too much work hating you all the time.”

And there it is in all its glory. The cocky smirk women fawn over. “I am pretty likable, eh?”

“Yeah, eh?”

He rolls his eyes and shakes his head when I mock his Canadianism.

“But the ball’s in your court, Lee. Do you think it’s possible for us to be friends?” I’m feeling a little unsure because he hasn’t actually told me he’s still on board.

He’s quiet for a moment. “It’s a hard question to answer when you’re wearing my clothes and sleeping at my condo, but…” His eyes scan down and up my body and he sighs. “Sorry, just one last time.”

“Lee!” My nipples draw tight and I hope he can’t see.

He laughs. “I think it’s a good start.”

Then he leaves the kitchen and walks down the hallway. I don’t move, pondering what he means by that before deciding that maybe I’m better off playing dumb.
