“My parents have bought the Kingsmen Football Team, and they’ll be announced as the new owners soon.”

I double blink. “Wow.”

He looks a little sheepish. “I know that sounds like such a rich kid thing to just drop in your lap like it’s nothing.”

I chuckle. “Well, yeah. I mean, I can’t imagine saying my parents just bought the Los Angeles Rams so…” He smiles. “I just wasn’t expecting you to say that. I thought you were going to fill me in on appointments I had to take Theo to or something.”

Brady laughs, and god, the way it lights up his eyes reminds me of rain glistening on a gold-colored fallen leaf.

“No, not a dentist appointment.” He shakes his head.

I tilt my head and study him. “What’s that going to be like for you?”

He shrugs. “They both said they’ll do their best to remain impartial where I’m concerned. They’ve never interfered with my career and only ever give their opinion when asked. My mom much prefers to interfere with my personal life.” He rolls his eyes.

“She certainly is entertaining.”

“That’s one word for it,” he says wryly. “Did she offer you a free vibrator yet?”

My eyes widen and I suck in a breath. “Wh-what?” Then I remember what Google said about her having wealth before they got married, but I’m not going to blurt out I know anything about his parents because I spent a whole sleepless night digging up information.

He laughs at my expression. “She must’ve been trying really hard to be on her best behavior.”

“How so?”

“My mom owns a sex toy company, among other things. But the sex toy company is her passion.” He waves me off. “She’s very… sexually liberated.”

“Really? Wow. That’s…”

“Yeah, you don’t have to finish that sentence or that thought. It is what it is. I took a lot of shit about it growing up, but my mom is an amazing woman, so I tried not to let it bother me too much.” He shrugs.

“Women around the world have her to thank for their orgasms.” And now I’m thinking about all the orgasms Brady gave me during the night we shared and my cheeks heat.

He chuckles lightly. “Yeah, I suppose they do.”

“I assume Theo has no idea?”

Brady shakes his head. “No, he’s too young. At some point he will, but not anytime soon. It might be one of the few boundaries my mom respects. They kept it from me for a long time growing up.”

I nod. “I can’t imagine either of my parents being so open about sex. I never even had the birds and the bees talk with them. My mom just left a book about puberty on my pillow one day. She probably assumes I’m a virgin still and my husband will teach me.”

Brady’s mouth drops open. “Really?”

I nod.

“I was on the other end of the spectrum. My mom lectured me in high school about how to make sure the girl comes first—all her tips and techniques. It was traumatizing.”

I cover my mouth with my hand to keep my laugh in, picturing teenage Brady sitting on the edge of his bed as Lennon used a pointer stick and a whiteboard to go over female anatomy.

“Laugh it up, but we both know it paid off.” He laughs too, but a few seconds later our laughter dies, and we’re left with our gazes locked. The stifling heat in the room ratchets up. “Sorry, it was just a joke…”

I wave off his concern. “We can joke about it.” I give what I hope comes off as an easygoing smile, even though inside I’m strung tighter than a piano wire.

“Right.” He gives me a sharp nod.

“Anyway, I think it’s cool that your mom made herself a success. I’m sure that couldn’t have been easy, especially since it had to do with putting women first.”

“Oh, she has lots of stories about how the patriarchy tried to fuck her over, but don’t ask her about them or you’re in for a three-hour chat.”
