“So, what’s up with you and your hot nanny?” Evan asks with zero segue.

I scowl in his direction. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

He gives me an amused laugh. “There’s clearly something going on. Or at the very least you like her.”

My hand tightens on my knee. “She works for me.”

“Yeah, so?” Evan shrugs. “You’re very protective of her.”

“You were kind of weird when Evan was talking to her,” Bianca whispers.

I sigh. “Nothing is going on.” I won’t be telling these two about the night I shared with Violet.

“You just want something to be going on then? Because you were acting like a jealous boyfriend when you came in and saw me talking to her.” Evan arches an eyebrow.

I scowl. “I was not. And I don’t really find you a threat if I did want her.”

“You were actually. I’m just trying to figure out if you’ve already banged her or if it’s wishful thinking on your part.” Evan never knows when to shut the fuck up.

I grip the bridge of my nose between my thumb and forefinger. “Jesus, Evan.”

“She’s really pretty,” Bianca says as if that would make it okay to lust after my son’s nanny. “And nice, and she seems great with Theo.”

“She is all of those things, but nothing’s happening between us.” I look between the two of them.

Evan perks up. “Great, so you won’t mind if I ask her out then?”

I practically growl at him. “Evan…”

He chuckles. “No more objections. You want her.” He leans back in the chair with a smug look.

Am I that transparent?

Ihead downstairs to the kitchen just before nine. I’m nervous about tonight. Shayna and Bryce seem really nice, and Brady assured me that they are, but the first time out with a group of new people is always a little nerve racking. Thank God Amara will be with me.

I couldn’t decide on what to wear and I opted for my black, vegan leather strapless dress. It’s a little more boring than what I’d usually go out in, but it fits me like a glove and is pretty short, so it’s sexy. I’m not sure what Shayna and Bryce would think of my loud style, so I opted not to go with one of my crazier outfits tonight. I did sass it up a little by pairing it with ankle-length black fishnet socks and four-inch black slingbacks though, so there’s still a lot of me in the outfit.

Theo is already in bed and the TV is on in the family room when I make my way downstairs, so Brady must still be up. I feel rude just leaving, so I stick my head in to say goodbye.

My heels don’t hide the fact I’m approaching, so as soon as I step into the room, his head turns in my direction. I wish I had a camera filming his reaction when he sees me because his eyes widen and he looks me up and down. His lids grow heavy, making every feminine part of me tingle.

“Hey.” He stands off the couch. He’s wearing a thin pair of dark-gray lounge pants and a white T-shirt that stretches across his many lean muscles.

“Hi. I just wanted to let you know I’m heading out.” I gesture with the clutch in my hand to the hallway behind me. “I’ll probably be back late, but I’ll make sure to be quiet when I come in so I don’t wake you guys.”

“Yeah, okay. You, ah… you look really good.” He swallows hard and runs his hand down the back of his head.

A warm feeling invades my chest. “Thank you.”

“You always dress so different when you have an event.”

I can’t tell from his tone whether he perceives this as a good thing or a bad thing.

“I’ve always loved fashion and my job doesn’t allow me to wear much more than comfortable clothes, so I like to express myself when an opportunity arises.” I motion to my outfit.
