“There’s obviously still sexual tension between you two. That kinda thing doesn’t just go away, trust me.” The corners of Bryce’s lips tilt down. “I wish it did.”

Shayna’s head whips in her direction. “What’s that mean? Who are you referring to?”

“Nothing. I’m just saying… it’s going to keep building and building until something happens. It’s inevitable.”

“It’s not inevitable,” I insist, then bite the olive off the stick.

Bryce shrugs. “If you say so.”

“Brady and Bryce almost had a thing,” Shayna blurts. We’re on our second drink by now and I think she might be feeling it.

“You did?” I look at Bryce, my stomach in knots with jealousy. She’s gorgeous and definitely more the type I figured he would prefer.

She rolls her eyes. “We did not almost have a thing. We flirted a little one night, like, a year ago when we first met at a club. It wasn’t a big deal.”

I believe her, but still, jealousy sours my stomach. My throat closes and I choke on the olive. Amara pats my back and I sip my drink to get it down.

“Did he try to get you to go home with him?” Amara asks.

Bryce shakes her head. “Not at all. We moved pretty quickly from flirting to friendly conversation—I swear.” She holds her hands up in front of her, giving Shayla a sour look.

Trying to play it off, I shrug. “It’s none of my business or my concern.”

Bryce chuckles. “Yeah, right. I was afraid you were going to launch yourself over the table and strangle me.”

I sigh because she’s right. I have no right to my reaction, but it is what it is, nonetheless.

“See. Told you. Something’s gonna happen.” Bryce looks smug, and I can’t say she shouldn’t. Especially after tonight when Brady saw me in this dress.

I crumple under the weight of stares. “It already has.” My hands fly up to cover my face.

A collective gasp goes around the table.

Amara gently pulls my hands from my face. “What happened?”

“The other day I was having trouble getting the oatmeal off the top shelf of the pantry and he came in to help and one thing led to another and we ended up making out.” I glance at Shayna. “It was right before Lee knocked on the door to pick him up for training camp.”

She nods as though she’s had a feeling all along.

“What happened afterward?” Amara asks, concern in her voice—probably because she knows how not like me this is.

“Nothing at first. He brought it up later, and we agreed that it couldn’t happen again and we’d be best to try to act like it never happened.”

Bryce scoffs. “Good luck with that.”

“You’ve never hooked up with someone before and acted like it didn’t happen?” Shayna arches a brow at her.

She waves her off. “We’re not talking about me.”

“So what are you going to do?” Amara asks.

My hands fly up from my sides. “I have no idea. It’s so hard, you guys. He’s sooo hot, and he’s the best father and he actually seems like a nice guy… you should have seen the way he was looking at me before I left tonight.”

“I’ll bet. That dress is hot as hell on you.” Bryce brings her wineglass to her lips.

“Still. Nothing can happen again.”

“And why is that exactly?” Shayna asks.
