“Should be fun,” I squeak, shaking his hand. His touch is just as electric as I remember, and I quickly turn and walk away. My body follows Jax back to the car, but my mind is back in that hotel room. At least I know why he had to leave so suddenly.

“All right. Mission accomplished. Where do you want to go first?” Jax asks as he holds the passenger door open for me.

“I thought you were the tour guide,” I muse and shake my umbrella on the sidewalk.

“Fine. I’ll leave you in suspense until we get there.”

He wasn’t the only one. I look back out to the cemetery before closing the door.

I siftthrough the various boxes that cover my new room. The rain put a slight damper on the sightseeing, and I’m not too upset about it. After seeing Johnathan again, my mind can barely focus on anything else. Even if he’s already seen me in my birthday suit, I still want to make the effort to look nice. I groan. Why didn’t I better label these boxes?

Jax cracks the door open. “Everything okay?”

I lace my fingers behind my head and stare at the boxes. “Just trying to unpack. You’d think a girl with two degrees would know how to properly label things.”

“Don’t worry about that stuff right now. You have time to unpack and get your life together.”

“But what about dinner?”

He leans on the doorframe. “Just wear something from your suitcase. What about the dress from the wedding?”

“No,” I balk. “I can’t wear that again.”

He cocks an eyebrow at me. “What happened to your dress?”

Other than the fact that Johnathan already tore it off me a few nights ago?

“It’s dirty,” I stutter. “Got clumsy with the wine and it’s a whole thing to get the stain out. I’ll just keep looking for something.”

“Whatever.” Jax shrugs. “We’re leaving here in an hour, so you better be ready by then.”

I give him a thumbs-up. “Got it.”

He closes the door, and I fall back onto the bed. I’m running out of time. How is a girl supposed to focus when all she can think of is sex?

I tugat the hem of my green dress as Jax and I stand in front of the restaurant. The wind whips around my ankles, and I shiver with the regret of not choosing something a little warmer. The price of beauty is overrated. At least the rain finally stopped. The lights of the different restaurants glow in the puddles on the sidewalk, and a group of girls walks past us. Must be nice to be so carefree. I shiver as the wind picks up again.

“Why can’t we just wait inside?” I complain. “I’m freezing.”

“He should be here any minute,” Jax reassures me.

“I hope so,” I mumble.

“Next time we go out, bring a jacket.”

“Noted.”

I shift uncomfortably as the wind continues to blow around us. The anticipation of seeing him again is making me lightheaded.Keep your head, Kylie. Remember how to breathe. The last thing I want is for Johnathan to find me passed out on the concrete.

A sleek, black car slows in front of us. My heart kicks into overdrive as Johnathan steps out of the back, a Secret Service–looking man holding the door open for him. His eyes search for me the moment he steps out the car. I feel like a fan girl at the edge of the red carpet as he walks toward us, a grin on his face as he strikes an exaggerated pose for Jax. Guess they are as close as Jax says.

“Look at Mr. Fancy Pants.” Jax claps. “Hasn’t even been twenty-four hours and you’ve already transformed into royalty.”

“Believe me, it’s not glamorous.” Johnathan relaxes his goofy stance and looks at me. “Nice to see you again, Kylie.”
