I flung back the bedcovers and grabbed my gun.

Creeping downstairs, my eyes were immediately drawn to my study. The light had been switched on in there.

Silently prowling toward the open door, I aimed my weapon.

“Aloysius?” I said in surprise.

My brother was removing money from the safe. He spun around when he heard my voice, shock all over his face.

“Lorenzo? What are you doing here?”

I lowered my weapon. “I think that’s my question, little brother. This is my house, and it’s 1am,” I drawled. “What’s going on?” The gate guards knew to let in Aloysius automatically, and he had his own key to the house and the code for the safe. He was in and out often, leaving and collecting cash from my safe.

“I thought you’d been arrested.”

My nerves pricked. “What are you talking about?”

“The Feds raided the factory tonight and arrested everyone there. We thought you were caught up in the raid. You said you were going to the factory tonight and you haven’t been answering your phone.”

I strode over to my laptop and flipped it open, downloading the security feed from the factory. “I was supposed to be there. But I got delayed and never made it.”

I pressed play on the footage.

“Federal agents! Put your hands on your head now!”

Men and women dressed in suits and FBI jackets swarmed into the factory, their guns raised and aimed at our men.

“Spread out,” the lead agent yelled. “Everything goes—seize those computers and all files!”

Our men were being cuffed.

“You’re under arrest!”

But before I could see anything else, the footage was disconnected.

“Fuck! Who did they get?”

Aloysius reeled off a list of names, including two of my best Captains and Giuseppe. “That’s our best guess. We haven’t got a complete list yet—I’ve got one of my guys going through today’s security footage from earlier, seeing who arrived and who left, and compiling a list of who we think was still in the factory when it was raided.”

“Fuck, fuck, fuck!”

“I came to collect cash to give to the lawyers,” Aloysius explained. “Bail will be set in the morning and then we can get everyone out. We kept large amounts of cash in our safes for this very reason. The lawyers also will want to be paid daily in cash—in case our assets are frozen. Our lawyers are already at the station, trying to get more information on who was arrested.”

“And, let me guess, the cops aren’t being very helpful.”

“Correct. Christ, Lorenzo, I thought you’d been arrested too. Thank God you weren’t caught up in it.”

“I would have been, but something came up here at home. How the fuck did the Feds find out about the factory?” I snarled. I was in charge of the factory operation. Only a tight circle of our men had knowledge of the factory. We had deliberately kept it on a need-to-know basis to prevent unnecessary risks. “It’s been working well for the last eighteen months, and there’ve been very few changes in personnel since we established it.”

“Maybe someone let something slip inadvertently?” Aloysius suggested.

“Everyone who works there knows to keep their mouths shut. They’ve all proven their loyalty. Who’s the newest person we have there?”

“Tommaso. He’s been there fourteen months, and he’s worked for us for six years now. We pay him very well, and I can’t see him as ever being disloyal,” Aloysius mused. “However, he’s the last person to be told about the factory’s existence.”

“But he’s not,” I murmured.
