“Thank you,” I whisper.

“Don’t thank me, dumbass. They’re family and we always watch out for our own. It isn’t the Ramello’s trailing her.” That has me sitting up straight.

“How do you know?”

“Look, I’ll fill you in tomorrow. I got a girl to fuck and I’m pretty sure there is blonde beside you right now, so fuck off and go annoy her.” I chuckle as he ends the call. Bishop knows me better than I give him credit for, that is for damn sure.

Chapter12

Allison

THREE WEEKS…

Mela and I have been staying here with King—the twins and Kiara are on break from school and back home. My days are spent hanging out with the twins and Mela, sometimes Kiara as well when she isn’t doing Bishop all hours of the day. Rook splashes water in my face and I turn to glare at him. It’s such a beautiful day and it’s rare to get a nice warm day like this so close to winter, so we decided to swim. Knight is teaching Mela to swim beside us and I have to say I think he is her favorite.

“What’s your plans for Christmas?”

“What do you mean?” Rook rolls his eyes at me.

“Do you have any traditions that you do?” I smile and nibble on my lip as I swim over to the side.

“I take Mela to look at the lights and we bake cookies for Santa and watchHome Aloneevery Christmas Eve.”

“Awww, that actually sounds fun.” He slings his arm over my shoulder and draws me into his side. “This year, you won’t be doing that shit alone with Meelz, we’ll be here with you both.” He has no idea how much that means to me. It’s always just been Mela and me.

“You’re the best, thank you, Rook.” I place a kiss to his cheek and smile at him.

“So, you’re fucking the other twin?” Rook and I spin around to see King standing at the end of the pool glaring at us. I open my mouth to deny his claim and defend myself but what’s the point? King constantly makes snide remarks, glares or scowls at me whenever I speak to the twins or hang out with them. I’ve done nothing wrong! I lift myself onto the edge and hop out. I don’t have the energy to fight with him daily. Don’t get me wrong, the make-up sex is fucking amazing but I can’t live like this. I grab my towel off the lounger and wrap it around my waist as I head inside. Just as I pass King, he reaches out and grips my arm halting my exit. I glare up at him and try to yank free of his hold but he’s so much bigger and stronger than I am. “Answer me!” he growls right in my face.

“What do you want me to say?” I snap, keeping my voice low so Mela doesn’t hear.

“The fucking truth. Are you screwing my brother?” I’ve had enough of his accusations, I hear Rook scoff behind us.

“Which one, King? Every day you accuse me of screwing one of them so who is it today? It was Knight yesterday, so is it Bishop or Rook? Cause, you know Bishop comes knocking every day after he fucks Kiara first.” At the sound of a throat clearing I turn to the side and see Bishop and Kiara walking toward us from the pool house. Kiara is trying not to laugh but Bishop looks murderous.

“You seriously think, I would fucking do that to you?” I can hear the threat in Bishop’s tone, King is treading on thin ice here. Kiara reaches up and places her hand on Bishop’s chest trying to calm him, her blue diamond sparkles in the afternoon sunlight.

“Daddy, look me.” It grates on my nerves more than him accusing me of cheating when he ignores Mela. I yank my arm free and step back. His eyes bore into mine as I shake my head, so tired of this same argument.

“I’m not my fucking sister!” I scream at him, all the emotions I have buried come crashing to the surface after weeks of pushing them down. “You can fucking treat me how you want, but you do not get to ignore my daughter!” My eyes widen as soon as the word flees from my mouth. Much like a movie, everything around me goes deathly silent, not a word is uttered as everyone, including me, waits to see how King will react to my claim on Amelia. He closes the space between us, grips the back of my neck and places a chaste kiss to my lips before pulling back. His eyes shine with disgust and loathing, I know what comes out of his mouth next is going to be a blow to my fucking heart.

“That was cute, but let’s not forget you’re just her glorified aunt who is playing mommy.” Tears prick my eyes at his cruel words. I hear someone get out of the pool behind me but I can’t pull my gaze from him to check. Knight shoots past me and punches King right across the jaw. He stumbles back a step but launches at Knight, tackling him to the ground. Bishop tries to stop them but can’t. Rook jumps out of the pool and tries to help his oldest brother. Kiara jumps in to help them but Knight and King are rolling along the ground punching each other and trading blow for blow.

“Fucking stop!” Rook shouts, but they don’t listen. Bishop grabs the back of King’s shirt but it tears away when he pulls. Kiara is trying to help Rook get Knight but–the sounds of splashes draws my attention and that’s when my whole world crashes down. Mela is upside down in her floaty ring, her legs kicking in the air while her head is in the water.

“Amelia!” I scream as I run and jump in the pool swimming for her. My heart is racing inside my chest as I swim as fast as I can to get to my baby. I hear someone else jump in the water just as I reach her and tip her the right way. She gasps and splutters water out as she screams for me. I pull her out of her ring and tap her back as I move toward the steps. Bishop tries to help me with Mela but I turn and drop down on the edge of the pool with her in my arms. Her cries break me. I keep tapping her back as she coughs and cries for me. “I’m right here, baby,” I choke out and cry with her. When she finally stops coughing, I crush her against me and climb to my feet. King launches himself out of the pool and all five of them stand in front of me.

“Allison—” I pin King with a look.

“Don’t you dare, don’t you fucking dare! I’m taking Mela and we are leaving. You so much as try and stop me I will fucking shoot you with your own gun!” Pain shines in his eyes. Knight steps forward and I just stare at him.

“Ally, I’m so sorry. I didn’t…”

“Knight, stop. I can’t do this right now. I’m gonna pack our things and then you can tell me about it on the way to dropping us off?” He nods and steps aside. I keep my head high as I walk past them, knowing I probably just signed my own death warrant but I can’t be here. Mela nearly fucking died! I take the steps two at a time as I make my way to King’s room to pack our things. I knew this was a bad idea. I can’t believe I was so stupid! I go into the bathroom and grab a towel to wrap around Mela, sit her on the edge of the bed, then kneel down in front of her and rub her arms. Silent tears leak from her eyes. I place a kiss to her forehead and will my tears to remain at bay. “Stay right here.” I leave her on the edge of the bed as I grab our bags and start pulling clothes from the hangers and shoving them in the bags. As I walk out of the closet with one of the bags, I spot King in the doorway. He looks so torn but I don’t have the emotional capacity to deal with his shit right now.

“I’m sorry.” I scoff as I place the bag next to Mela and check her again. I need to keep an eye on her for silent drowning.

“Is she okay?” I look over my shoulder and nod to Knight, he and King stand stiffly beside each other. Knight moves toward me but King snaps out his arm stopping him. Knight turns to his brother and the remorseful look on his face tells me he didn’t mean for the fight to get out of hand.
