Allison

Ifeel so awkward and all types of wrong borrowing her bathing suit. The bottoms are a bikini cut so the bottom of my ass cheeks hang out. The top is small and my breasts don’t exactly fit it properly but I don’t have to worry as I’ve been in here for at least ten minutes and Amelia is out there with them. I come out of the bathroom and find Kiara in the living room. Her eyes widen at the sight of me and I begin to feel self-conscious.

“Damn, girl, how do you get all of that?” I can’t help the laughter that bubbles out of me. “I hate that you look better in my own bikini than I do.” I scoff, has this girl seen a mirror? She is fucking gorgeous. Long black hair and pale as fuck blue eyes, she has the perfect body to boot.

“Please, I haven’t worn a bathing suit since…” I cut myself off and drop my gaze. Kiara rushes over and grips one of my hands in hers.

“Don’t do that.” I slowly lift my gaze to hers in question.

“Do what?” She blows out a breath before answering.

“I love each of these boys but let me help a sister out.” I nod eagerly. “Do not give into them. You stand your ground and fight for what you want. If you don’t, they will walk all over you.” I eye her and shake my head.

“They have the money to take her from me. I’m not like you all, I don’t have a trust fund–” Kiara laughs and it grates on my nerves. I yank my hand free and glare at her. “Just because I don’t have money doesn’t mean you’re better than me.” Her eyes harden as she stares at me and I ready myself for the onslaught.

“What the fuck makes you think I’m rich? I’m a scholarship kid. I used to fight every Friday night at the shack in down town to make money just to survive. I may be with Bishop but that doesn’t mean I have money. Don’t judge a fucking book by its cover, Allison. We all aren’t what we seem.” Shame washes over me.

“I’m so sorry, I should never have said what I did. I’m just…” I take a deep breath and tell her the truth. “I’m so fucking scared he will take her from me. I’m all that girl has known since the moment she was born. I can’t afford a lawyer and even if I could, I don’t have a leg to stand on. He’s her father and I’m just her… Ally.” Kiara shocks the shit out of me when she wraps her arms around me and pulls me to her, hugging me. I didn’t know how much I needed this until now. Before I can let my emotions get the better of me she pulls back and smiles at me cockily.

“Listen here, we are going to go out there and you are going to hold your head high. Don’t let King see he is getting to you, fight back. Just for the record, I voted against King taking her from you. I knew it wouldn’t be a good idea to rip a kid away from the only mother she has ever known.” Her words send a warmth through me, I give myself a mental pep talk before taking a deep breath and standing tall, nodding my head for Kiara to lead the way. As soon as we round the corner from the pool house, I feel their gazes on me I choose to focus on Mela who is now sitting atop a huge unicorn float.

“Look me Ally, I got big one.” I give her a double thumbs up and smile wide, she looks so happy. Rook and the other guy who I know to be his twin Knight, are standing on either side of her making sure she doesn’t fall in. I know who each of these guys are but only from the tabloids. I follow Kiara over to the loungers where King and Bishop sit. She takes the spot between his legs and rests back against his chest. He looks down at her like she is the very oxygen he needs to breathe. I sneak a glance at King to find his gaze already on me. When I see anger in his green eyes it stumps me.

“What the fuck are you wearing?” he snaps. I turn toward Mela and sigh in relief that she didn’t just hear him berating me.

“Can you keep your voice down please, she doesn’t need to hear you speaking to me like that and it’s a bathing suit.” Kiara shoots me a look telling me to not give in. I close my eyes for a second and ready myself for the battle I’m sure is going to follow. I don’t wait for his reply as I turn on my heel, run toward the pool and jump, making a huge splash. I smile to myself as I break the surface, Mela claps her hands and cheers for me. Rook and Knight are both laughing. I follow their gazes and spin around in the water to see King standing there clothed, dripping wet and glaring at me. I smile up at him innocently and wave before swimming over to Mela and the twins.

Kiara wouldn’t relent until I agreed that Mela and I would stay for dinner. Mela is absolutely taken by the twins. The three of them are all crowded at the coffee table in the living room playing mouse trap. A pang hits me in the chest at the sight. She has been missing out on all of this because of me.

“I haven’t seen my brother smile in months.” I startle at the sound of his voice. I turn to the side and stare up at Bishop as he takes a sip of whiskey from his tumbler.

“Why not?” He doesn’t look at me when he answers.

“He went through some shit. Today is the first time I haven’t seen the ghosts of his past pulling him under because of Mela.” It warms my heart to know Mela’s beautiful soul can bring light into one of her uncle’s lives. My warmth evaporates when he speaks again. “You so much as think of keeping that child from her father or hurting him the same way your sister did, you won’t live to see your twenty-second birthday.” I gape up at him in horror. He lazily swings his gaze to me and I can see it in the depths of his brown eyes, he isn’t joking. I gulp loudly and nod. I was stupid to think Mela was missing out. I know now I did the right thing by shielding her away from her father’s side of the family. They are killers and this isn’t a world for a child to be raised in. I steel myself and hold Bishop’s gaze as I answer low enough for only him to hear.

“I know you have all dug up information about me and may think you know who I am but you don’t.” The look in his eyes has me quaking but I won’t back down. “I’ll never give her up without a fight. I raised her. I was the one to love her first and I know who you and your family are.” He raises his brows but I’m not done yet. “I don’t care. Mela is everything to me and I will not allow you or your brother to take her from me. She’s my…” I cut myself off before I can finish and drop my gaze.

“She’s your what?” I spin around so fast I nearly slip. Bishop grips my arm to steady me and I don’t miss the way King’s gaze drops to my arm that Bishop holds.

“Huh?” I splutter as Bishop releases his hold on me. I spy Kiara out of the corner of my eye stalking toward us.

“She’s. Your. What?” He makes sure to enunciate each word like he is speaking to a toddler. He moves so close that his chest brushes against me and I have to crane my neck back to look up at him. “Answer me, Allison!” How can a man look so strikingly beautiful and yet be a demonic monster inside. King’s boyishly good looks lull you into thinking he’s a good guy, when he’s not.

“She’s my… girl,” I mutter, he narrows his eyes at me.

“Nah, that’s not what you were going to–”

“Hey, Ally.” I turn to the side to see Rook waving me over. I don’t even hesitate, I move toward them but King wraps an arm around my waist hauling me back against his rock-hard chest. I gasp. Mela looks to me in confusion, so I quickly wipe the surprised look from my face and smile happily at her.

“I’m just gonna be a minute then I’ll join you. Okay, Meelz.” She begrudgingly nods clearly not sold on my excuse. King doesn’t utter a word as he lifts me from the ground and walks us into the kitchen. Bishop and Kiara both stare at us. He looks pissed but Kiara fights the smile trying to break free. He keeps going until we reach a games room before he finally releases his hold on me. My relief is short lived when a hand wraps around my neck and I’m slammed back against the wall. I stare up at him in horror, certain he is going to kill me where I stand while Mela is in the other room.

“She isn’t yours. You’re not her fucking mother! She is my daughter and you are only here until she gets comfortable enough to be around me. Do I make myself clear?” Tears burn the backs of my eyes as I nod. He isn’t done though, as he leans down until we are eye to eye. “You so much as think of pulling even half the shit your sister did–” I cut him off, so tired of the threats on my life.

“Kill me then!” I taunt him. “I don’t care anymore. If you take her from me then death will be better than living in a world where I can’t be around her.” For a second, one split second I see remorse in his eyes before he quickly masks it.

“You don’t know half of it, Allison. Your sister wasn’t the angel you think she was. You will spend the night here with Amelia–”
