We haven’t spoken a word to each other since last night. Sleeping next to him after kissing him back was freaking awkward. This morning neither of us said a word as we got ready for the day. He’s currently in the kitchen fixing lunch whilst I avoid him outside on the porch. He was kind enough to show me where the toilet was this morning and I’ll be honest, I nearly cried tears of joy knowing I didn’t have to pee in the bush. I don’t know what the hell came over me last night or what I had hoped to achieve, but it sure as hell wasn’t him kissing me or feeling his hard cock grinding against my pussy. My body responded to him like I was a puppet obeying its master.

“You eating out here?” I peer over my shoulder to look at him and nearly swallow my fucking tongue. He stands there in a pair of dark jeans with no freaking shirt! The man has a body that will have women all over the world falling to their knees just to worship him. My mouth salivates at the sight of his indented V… my God the way… He clears his throat pulling me from my thoughts and causing me to snap my gaze back to his. The knowing look in his eyes causes a blush to coat my cheeks. I just got freaking caught checking him out!

“I-I.” I clear my throat and climb to my feet as I brush off my shorts to give me something to do other than look at him. “I’ll eat inside.” I peek up at him through my lashes and roll my eyes when I see a ghost of a smirk on his face. I move past him, making sure to shoulder check him on my way inside. Since last night, the angry tension between us has eased and been replaced by… sexual tension that shouldn’t be there!

I head over to the table and drop down into my seat with the grace of an infant elephant. I ignore Vin as he plates our food before walking toward me. He places a plate in front of me before claiming his seat. The food smells divine. It’s something so simple yet it has my mouth watering for a whole different reason. I look over at him and smile wide.

“You made grilled cheese?” A smug smirk graces his handsome face, his eyes twinkle with something I can’t decipher.

“I was in the mood for a…snack.” I gasp stunned by his boldness. I’m not stupid enough to pretend there wasn’t a sexual innuendo in his meaning. I feel a blush working its way up my neck and quickly duck my head, using my hair as a curtain to shield my face from his view. I freeze when he reaches over and tucks my hair behind my ear. I slowly raise my eyes to his, taken back by the gentleness in the way he just touched me, a stark contrast to how he handled me yesterday.

“Why am I here, Vincent?” I ask softly as he drops his hand back to his lap. He stares at his plate for so long, my shoulders droop in defeat. I pick up my sandwich and nibble on it, not really tasting anything.

“Because I was hired to kill you.” I choke on the bit of toast and slap my chest to help me digest it. I expected to hear him say he would kill me but not that he was hired or to hear remorse in his tone. “The people that hired me want me to strip you bare, take photos and send them to your brother to instigate a war.” My stomach churns and threatens to spill the tiny amount I have eaten.

“Do you know my brother?” His eyes harden, his body turns ridged. I know the answer before he even voices it.

“Your family took something from me and I want it back.” The conviction in his voice tells me he won’t stop until he gets whateveritis back.

“Were you really hired or are you just here to piss Bishop off and kill me in the process?” I’m beyond proud at the fact my voice doesn’t quiver and I found the strength within myself to be asking him for the truth. If I am going to make it out of here in one piece, I need to know all of the facts. He leans back and crosses his arms over his chest, whilst maintaining eye contact with me.

“I don’t lie. I may dodge a question or not answer at all but I am no fucking liar.” I nod, encouraging him to continue. “I work for an agency. Your name came across my… desk and I took the job without thought.”

“Why?”

“Because, for you to have the last name Murdoch I knew you had to be someone important or related to them. I had no idea you were their sister. I suspected you were––” I cut him off knowing what he is about to say.

“Girlfriend, side piece, cousin, hidden baby momma?” He scrunches his face in disgust. Yeah, buddy, the feeling is mutual.

“Yeah, something like that.”

“If I am a job to you, what am I worth?” His brows pull in and he tilts his head to the side confused by my question, so I explain further. “What are you getting paid to take out the secret sister no one knows exists?” Anger swims in his dark gaze.

“Why the hell do you want to know that?” I throw my hands up in the air in frustration.

“Because all I have been my whole fucking life is a ticket, or a bargaining chip if you will. My life was never my own. I was hidden, not allowed friends, had to play girlfriend to my own brothers if we were spotted together. I think I at least deserve to know how much I am fucking worth since I don’t exist to the world. Could you––”

“Ten million.” I snap my mouth closed and stare at him in shock.Ten million! “You are worth ten million euros, Carlina. Someone out there really wants to send a message to your brother.”

“Who hired you, Vincent?”

Vincent

Who hired you, Vincent?

I replay her question over and over in my mind before I decide to answer. She may think she has a right to know but truth is, she doesn’t. That is the first rule of the job, you don’t know who hired you. The identity of the person is always confidential no matter what. There is no excuses, no fuck ups, no nothing. Bishop is the Don. He has a lot of enemies so it would be like picking a needle from a haystack trying to narrow down who ordered the hit.

“I don’t know,” I answer honestly.

“Why are you being so forthcoming?” The skepticism in her voice is warranted.

“You have a right to know these things.” She nods solemnly.

“Right, because I won’t be around long enough to tell anyone.” I roll my lips over my teeth to stop myself from smiling.

“I should have killed you before you even got on the plane to come here.” Her face scrunches in confusion.
