The sound of my voice caused the man to turn his gaze from the nurse to me. Relief flooded his face, but then anger rushed back and his face went red.

“Where is she? Do you have Brooklyn?”He demanded.

“No. Man, get back into the bed before you fall. You were shot,”I said.

I brushed by the nurse and took Frank’s arm to force him into a sitting position first. With more strength than I expected him to have, he shoved my hand away.

“I know I was fucking shot. Brooklyn was there. It was Lyle, Gideon. Fucking Lyle shot me and he took Brooklyn,”Frank said.

“We had assumed that, mostly,”I said quietly, my throat getting tight.

“That’s not all. Jesus, it was right in front of us all, and we fucking missed it.”

“Missed what, Frank?”Oliver asked from the foot of the bed.

Frank’s gaze flew to him, as if he had just realized my brother was in the room with us. His brows gathered together in confusion, and it was then I noticed the nurse removing a needle from his IV line. I stared at her and she just stood her ground, staring back.

“He needs his pain meds managed, and it was time. With all this moving around, he’s going to be in horrendous pain,”she said.

“Goddamnit, I don’t want to go to sleep,”Frank said, his voice getting groggy.

“Frank, what was right in front of us? What did we miss?”I demanded.

His eyes focused on me and I could see the fog starting to descend over his mind. I shook him slightly, and his eyes widened again as he forced himself to take a deep breath and say the next words.

“Missy. Lyle and Missy, they’re working together. They were both there. She was there,”Frank said. His voice began to fade at the end.

My fingers almost slipped from his arm, but at the last moment, I remembered I was the one holding Frank up. With Oliver’s help, we helped him lie back in the bed. The nursepushed us back as she fixed his monitors and checked that he hadn’t ripped open any incisions. She covered him up and Frank’s head lolled toward me.

“Gideon, I’m sorry. He drugged her. He took her away,”Frank murmured.

“I know, Frank. It’s not your fault. We’ll find her,”I said, trying to reassure him as much as myself.

Once Frank was passed out again, Oliver and I went back to the nurse's station to talk to the red head that was waiting for us. She looked exasperated and exhausted.

“Mr. Knight, I understand there’s something going on, but Mr. Lewis’health is my concern.”

“I appreciate that, ma’am. He should be calmer now that he’s told me what he needed to,”I said.

“Should I be calling the police?”She asked.

“No, it’s ok. I’ll pass the information along to the detective on the case.”

I didn’t mention that I was going home to tell my brothers first. This new information changed everything. Lyle had to believe he had killed Frank, because connecting the dots on him and Missy was probably the last thing he wanted.

“Ok, I’ll agree to that because honestly, I’m too tired to deal with the police right now. I’ll let Mr. Lewis know that you will come back during visiting hours?”She asked.

I nodded and thanked her. Oliver and I stalked back to the elevator. Once the doors shut and we were alone, Oliver spun to me.

“Fucking, Missy? How is that even possible?”He demanded.

“The same question I have, brother,”I said gruffly.

Suddenly, Oliver turned and slammed his fist into the wall of the elevator. He pulled back to do it again, but I grabbed him to pull him back. He bellowed, a deep pained sound coming from his throat. For a moment, I wished Jaxon was with us. He wasthe one that could always talk any of us down. But Oliver only had me right now, and I had to be what he needed.

I turned, wrapping my arms around him and squeezed him against my chest. None of my brothers were short, but Oliver was the shortest of us. I had at least four inches on him and I was able to control him as he came under control. His head dropped and one of his hands gripped my forearm that was across his chest. I could feel his breathing calming down just as the elevator stopped on the bottom floor.

When the doors slid open, I put my foot at the door to ensure it didn’t close on us, but I didn’t let go of Oliver.
