I nod. “He hasn’t told me where we’re going.”

“I’m sure it’ll be perfect. You look really happy, Meli.”

I smile. “I am.”

“Good. It’s about time.” She hugs me. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

“It’s so nice to see you smile. For once, it looks genuine.”

She leaves me to pack, and I think over her words. She’s right. For the first time in my life, I am happy, and I mean those words. They’re not forced or used to hide my sadness. Arthur Taylor makes me happy.

Arthur’s driver stops the car right on the tarmac by a small plane. I laugh, looking out the car window like a child. “A private plane?” I screech.

“Of course,” says Arthur, getting out the car and coming around to my side to open the door for me. He takes my hands and leans in for a kiss before leading me towards the plane.

We climb the steps and we’re greeted warmly by the air hostess who shows us into the plane. We’re seated in large, comfy chairs and given champagne. “I didn’t take you for the romantic type,” I say, sipping my drink.

“You deserve it after everything you’ve been through. If it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t have gotten involved in anything to do with Jolene.”

“We’ve been over this,” I tell him.

“I know, but this is my way of trying to make up for it. I’ll never put you in danger again.”

“Some things are out of your control, Arthur.”

“Have you thought about my offer?” he asks.

I nod. Arthur asked me to move in with him when we get home. “I’d love to.”

“Really?”

“It’ll be weird not being at the clubhouse and surrounded by everyone, but I think it’ll work.”

He pulls out his iPad. “Which is why I brought this.” He holds it out for me to take, and I stare at the picture of some land. “It’s behind the MC. Planning permission is just going through. I thought we could build our own place where you’ll still be near everyone.”

I stare at him in disbelief. “You’d do that for me?”

He nods. “I have a feeling Rylee will be needing you around, and Ma wants to stay at the clubhouse to help Mama B. They’ve really hit it off.”

I throw myself at him, and he wraps me in his arms. “I love you so much,” I whisper.

“I love you too, Angel. And for the record, this is not a free pass for Rosey to be around all the time.” I laugh, knowing full well I’ll never get rid of Rosey if I’m just a few steps away.

We land in Paris. I’ve never been, and it doesn’t escape my attention that I once mentioned this to him when he asked me about ideal dates. “I hope you don’t mind, but we have to get to dinner,” he tells me, opening the door to the waiting car.

We’re driven to the Eiffel Tower, and I clutch my hands to my chest. “You’re taking me on my ideal date,” I whisper.

“We’ve been seeing each other for a while and I’ve never taken you on a real date,” he replies, helping me out the car.

We take the elevator to the top of the tower, where the restaurant overlooks Paris. “It’s a taster menu,” the waiter tells us as we’re seated.

“We’ll take the seven courses and a bottle of red,” Arthur orders.

“Have you been here before?” I ask.

“They do business breakfast here, and it’s a good way to seal a deal. But if you’re asking if I’ve been on a date here, no. I don’t date. I told you how the last relationship ended. I’m just not good at them.”
