Over and over, he fucked her. He couldn’t resist looking down and seeing her take all of his length, which glistened from her orgasm. His balls tightened and even as he tried to hold back, to force himself to pull out, he couldn’t do it. Slamming all the way inside her, he spilled his cum deep, begging, hoping, praying that she would end up pregnant.

Caleb collapsed and she wrapped her arms around him.

“I’ve got you,” she said.

“I didn’t use a condom,” he said.

“I know.”

“I don’t want to use condoms with you, Annie.” He took a chance to look up at her.

“You don’t?”

“I lied to you earlier. I wasn’t thinking about this. Well, I was, and I have been thinking about it all day long. You’re all I think about, even at work.”

“What did you want to ask me?”

“Will you move in with me? Will you spend Christmas with me?”

There was so much more he wanted to say, but he couldn’t bring himself to say it, not right now. Not after those letters. He couldn’t believe her fucking ex was getting in the way. And he couldn’t even be angry, not really.

“What about Tara?” she asked.

“Tara can live with us, too. I do know you have a baby, and the invitation was for both of you. You and Tara to live with me.” He pressed his fingers to her lips. “Don’t give me your answer right now.”

This wasn’t a good sign. He expected her to say yes. Had he moved too fast?

Ryan had warned him to take his time. He hadn’t told his friend that there was an engagement ring in his closet waiting for the perfect moment to propose to Annie.

Annie felt like a monster. She hadn’t given Caleb her answer to moving in with him. Part of her wanted to with all her heart, but what if this was a quick, fleeting moment for him? She knew Ryan was worried that Caleb was in love with her. Not that she’d be worried. She loved Caleb, there was no doubt about it in her mind, but they had yet to even utter the words to each other. The sex was amazing and they were not using protection anymore.

She spent her spare time at Caleb’s. She hadn’t slept at her apartment in nearly a month. That was a big step. She had promised herself she would never, ever, give up her apartment for anyone. She had done that with Lionel. Ever since she had read those letters, they had stopped being Tara’s parents, and were now back to their own names. There was no regret, no anger.

Lionel and Clara had loved one another, and she could imagine it hadn’t been easy for them to realize she was the only person they trusted with their child. She had forgiven them. When it came to Lionel, she had come to realize it wasn’t real love—not like the way she felt with Caleb.

She’d been angry and pissed off when she found out Clara and Lionel were having an affair, but more hurt by Clara’s actions than Lionel’s. They had been planning to get married, and it had all been messed up, but she also remembered feeling relieved that she no longer had to go through with it.

“When did you get this one?” Annie asked, drawing her attention back to Caleb.

They were once again in his bed. They had already had sex and now she was exploring his many tattoos, and the stories behind them.

“Is it a love heart or a face?” he asked.

“A love heart.”

“That was the second tattoo I got. I was such a freaking coward at first.”

“Is that why it’s so tiny?” she asked.

“Yeah. I was told it would hurt, and would feel like a million needles in my back.”

“Did it?”

“No, it didn’t. Trust me, there’s only so much pain I will accept.”

“You’ve got to tell me about the smiley face. What’s the story there?”

“A bad bet is all. Ryan bet me that I couldn’t run this race in a stupid time. I was drunk, and I couldn’t do it. We found a guy who didn’t ask if we were drunk, and he inked the smiley face right on my ass.”

Annie burst out laughing.

“The shit we do for friends, eh,” he said.

“I don’t know. I never got any ink for a bet. How drunk were you?”

“I ended up collapsing in the middle of the field. Ryan bet me that I wouldn’t be able to run the whole field in ten seconds. I said I could.”

Annie snorted. “Oh my God, no one could run the length of the field in ten seconds.”

“I was drunk. I was a young kid. I thought I knew best about everything and anything. I didn’t think anything would stop me from winning that bet.”

“And now you own a company designed to find the best nannies for couples. You do see the kind of horror or parody comedy movie happening right now?”
