Maybe he didn’t realize that while I was terrified of staying, I couldn’t survive without him. He’d found a place inside my soul, easing the blackness and loneliness I’d felt my entire life. He’d filled a void that until he’d capsized my life, I hadn’t known existed.

Now we were as one.

Neither one of us said anything as I rocked against his body, and I could swear he hadn’t blinked.

As the pleasure became utter rapture, all I heard was the rapid beating of my heart.

Then he issued a command that could never be denied. “Come for me, baby. Come on my cock.”

As a beautiful wave swept over me, I gasped for air, fighting to keep the rhythm. He finally took over control, lifting his hips off the chair and thrusting hard and fast. As a single orgasm exploded into another, tiny bottle rockets going off in my muscles, I threw my head back, doing everything I could to bite back a scream.

“Yes. Yes…”

I could sense he was close to erupting, his muscles tensing. I squeezed my muscles, dropping my head and bucking like a wild stallion.

As he started to shake, he yanked down my head, crushing my mouth with his, filling me with his seed.

There was nothing I wouldn’t do for the man. Nothing.

There was nothing he wouldn’t do for me.

But a whisper of darkness reminded me that we didn’t always get to choose. Karma would have its way.

And I was certain the end would be catastrophic.

CHAPTER18

Constantine

The waiting game.

I wasn’t good at playing it any more than I was at twenty questions. I had no patience left. With no possible way of identifying the covert group or knowing their plans, there was zero chance of being able to anticipate their next move. What disturbed the hell out of me was the quietness on the streets.

While Kansas City wasn’t New York, the fact there were two major syndicates within shouting distance had placed the better part of two states on edge. The Grassos hadn’t attempted another act of retaliation just like I hadn’t ordered the bastards gunned down for attacking my brother. Any concept of revenge would need to wait. With the deal with the Saudis called off, there was almost no activity going on.

However, the Grassos wouldn’t allow the opportunity to pass them by. I didn’t like the fact the prosecutor hadn’t reared his ugly head, but I also knew that was only a matter of time. If a ruse had been established, at least I’d know soon enough.

“You look stunning,” I told Jade as I guided her through the casino. The turnout was fantastic, exactly what Danika was hoping for.

“You have excellent tastes,” she commented. “You did pick this out yourself, right?” Her laughter was like sweet music.

“Believe it or not, I am a discerning man when it comes to my woman. Only the best.”

“Your woman, huh?”

“Don’t you forget it.” I pulled her close, running my finger from one side of her jaw to the other. “Perfect.”

“No one is perfect, oh King Thorn.”

She could always make me laugh. “Stay close tonight. Zane will shadow you.”

“I feel so special.” Her rebellion remained.

“I’m not taking any chances.”

As I grabbed two glasses of champagne, I checked on the locations of several of my men. I made certain the room was flanked by my soldiers. I couldn’t rule out the possibility the Grassos would use the night to their advantage.

There wasn’t a man in the room who wasn’t looking at her, hungering for her. The mood I was in tonight, I could easily beat one of them to death.
