I turned to him, a grin crossing my face. “I made a deal with my bride to be, and I plan on carrying out my end of the bargain.”

He lifted his eyebrows before shifting his gaze in her direction. “Bride to be? I thought you were eliminating the only witness from years before. Now you’ve gone from seducing her to marrying her? Jesus, man. The prosecutor will be all over you.”

“Let him. I was given a damn good idea. She’ll get my father off my back as well.”

“I don’t think that’s such a good idea.”

“And I suggest you keep your damn thoughts to yourself,” I hissed, realizing I’d have my hands full with her. Tristen had been a confidant over the years, but his push to become my equal had reached a path he wouldn’t like going down.

Unless he preferred shark-infested waters.

He dropped his head a few inches, a sign of respect. “You know what the Feds will think, and I can’t imagine you’d want to bother with her. It’s just too risky with the deal right around the corner.”

“Certain difficulties had very inspiring rewards.” Both Barrett and Brogan had reminded me that both she and her mother had disappeared after the mistrial. I could understand their concern, so I’d never given it any thought, especially since my father had made certain the issue would never be brought to another trial. But she’d disappeared in a way that suggested witness protection, and that hadn’t been the case.

At least according to Brogan.

That meant the beautiful, beguiling woman had secrets of her own. Was it possible she’d been a plant all those years ago? I couldn’t put it out of my mind. I was a thorough man after all. I would find out what she was hiding from me.

Even if it meant marking her gorgeous body time and time again.

Exhaling, he rubbed his jaw. “You play hardball.”

“Call it a perk of the business. After Fast Eddie is handled, we’re going to make a sight detour by way of my place in the Bahamas.”

Tristen shook his head. “I never knew you to be a romantic.”

“Oh, I’m not. However, I need her obedient enough I can engage in business when we return.”

“Whew. I hope you know what you’re doing. I’ll make the arrangements with the pilot after finding out about the loan shark.”

I nodded, waiting until he’d left before approaching her once again.

“What happens now?” she demanded, her lips pursed as she glared up at me. Up to this point, I’d only allowed her to cover her luscious body with a sheet. The material was thin enough I was able to see the outline of her hardened nipples. My mouth watered from the thought of wrapping my mouth around them.

“You’re coming with me. Then we’re going to have a long discussion.”

“We have nothing to talk about,” she insisted.

I took a deep breath, doing what I could to curtail my anger. “I think we do. Get some things together in a suitcase.”

“You’re forcing me to leave my life.”

“If we’re to be married, arrangements will need to be made. While I’ll leave that to your discretion, you will be monitored.”

“My God. How long am I going to be your prisoner?”

It was a valid question, one I hadn’t thought through. “Certainly until after you nurture the child.”

“Then what? I’m free to go or you’ll put a bullet in my head?” She was bordering on aggressive, which I found more curious than anything. Perhaps a dollar figure was what she was looking for.

“I’m offering you ten million dollars that will remain in your account collecting interest. Until the point you leave, all your expenses will be paid.”

“How the hell can I trust you?”

“You can’t.”

“Then I’m not going anywhere. Just kill me.”
