“Torch them. Every single fucking one of them.” I stood in the communications room on the boat, still able to see Jade from several berths. I’d pushed dinner off for another thirty minutes as I still planned on fucking her. However, I needed to send a warning to the son of a bitch, or my reputation would be tarnished, something I couldn’t allow to happen.

I’d confirmed Grassos had purchased a block of buildings in Kansas City, Kansas, which was a move to piss me off more than anything. Another state, the location miles apart. The purchase was a slap in the face, an attempt to put me on edge.

The assholes would be less than six fucking miles from a piece of our real estate. The area was close to the vibrant downtown and from what I’d been able to find out there were plans on building a five-star resort on land near one of our most popular casinos. That would put us in direct competition. That wasn’t going to be allowed.

Plus, they’d use it as a front for their other repulsive activities, including prostitution. While I supplied beautiful escorts for some of our high rollers, they were paid well, treated as valued employees. The Grassos abused the women, treating them as nothing but bait for those interested in large purchases of heroin. They could also use the Mississippi River and barges as transportation. But only if they paid off various inspectors to look the other way as my father had done over the years. There was no doubt they were planning full scale operations close to home.

Goddamn it. I would need to take action.

“You sure, Mr. Thorn?” Drago asked. I considered him the head enforcer, a man who’d come from the rough side of the tracks in New York. There wasn’t a situation he couldn’t handle.

Which was why his question irritated the hell out of me.

“It’s necessary. Would you prefer I get Nick to handle it?” He hated the man who’d worked with my father for years, insisting he wasn’t trustworthy.

“Fuck, no. I’ll take care of it tonight.”

“Good.”

“With or without baggage?” he asked. I knew his brutal methods, understood his bloodlust. While finesse was needed, caution required, the warning shot across the bow had to be strong enough Grasso would take pause.

“Whatever it takes. You know the rules.”

He snorted. “No women. No children.”

“Call me when it’s done.”

I knew I was drawing a line in sand that could change to quicksand at any moment, but the family had worked too hard over the last few years to allow another Sicilian organization to gain a single hold. What I’d yet to figure out is why they were going so hot and heavy when they had New Orleans and a good part of Texas under their control. Maybe it was time to shove them all the way out.

That would be the first order of business at the Brotherhood meeting. With Maxim heading Miami and surrounding states, and Diego already crowding into New Mexico, between the three of us we could crush their expansion with ease.

At least the message I was about to send to Cataldo should prove a point. My father had warned me that every decade or so, an enemy would need to be annihilated, which meant blood raining in the great river. So far, I’d avoided it. It would appear that couldn’t be the case any longer.

I raked my hands through my hair as I paced the floor, the anger continuing to build. There were few things that calmed me, but there was only one thing that would soothe the beast tonight.

Jade’s body.

I headed outside, moving behind her within seconds. She tensed as always but didn’t turn around. The only sign of recognition was the stiffness in her shoulders and her labored breathing.

“I didn’t tell you that you could get dressed.”

“You didn’t tell me I couldn’t,” she countered.

“Don’t push me, Jade. I’m not in the mood. Remove your clothes or I’ll do it for you.”

She turned around, never blinking as she obeyed me, but I could see contempt in her eyes form the bright moon shimmering across the deck.

“What’s wrong? Trouble in paradise?” She sidestepped me, trying to move away.

I grabbed her arm, reaching under her dress and cupping her bare mound. She’d kept her panties off, which intrigued and excited me. If she liked playing with fire, she was going to enjoy what I had planned for her.

When I yanked her back, she tried to slap me, but I wrenched her arm, shaking my head slowly. “You should know better than to rile the beast.”

“Is that all you can do, threaten me?”

“I’m not threatening you, my sweet girl. I only make promises and I intend on keeping every one of them with you.” I ripped at one strap with enough force she gasped.
