‘I’ve got swimming today,’ Lily chirruped as she tore a piece of pancake from the plate. ‘And then reader’s club.’

‘Yes.’ Darcie smiled. ‘Are you enjoying the book?’

Lily nodded. ‘Elias and I finished it just before making you breakfast.’

‘Time to go, Lily,’ Elias said. ‘Nanny’s downstairs waiting to walk you to school.’

‘You’re not walking me today?’

Walking Lily to the school down the road was one of Elias’s favourite ways to start the day. ‘I can’t this morning, sweetie.’

‘Because you’re looking after Darcie?’

‘Yes,’ he said seriously.

‘Feel better soon.’ Lily blew Darcie a kiss and then skipped out of the room calling for her nanny.

Elias turned back to Darcie and saw the emotion misting her eyes. ‘Did you sleep okay?’

‘I slept really well.’ She bit her lip. ‘But the silly thing is, I’m still really tired.’

He lifted the tray from her lap and put it on the table before returning to sit on the edge of the bed. ‘Is that so very silly?’

‘Maybe not,’ she murmured. ‘You know I have a secret...’ She swallowed.

‘Yeah... Good secret?’ He asked huskily.

She nodded and a tear fell from her eye. ‘The best.’

His heart swelled.

‘But I think you’ve guessed already.’ She gestured towards the breakfast tray she’d barely touched. ‘Plain toast. Orange juice. Bottle of multivitamins?’ Her giggle was watery and divine.

‘But am I right?’ Now his heart was about to burst. ‘I really hope I’m right, Darcie.’

‘Lily’s going to be a big sister,’ she whispered. ‘We’re going to have a baby.’

‘Oh, Darcie.’ He wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly. She was the centre of his world.

‘Thank you.’ Darcie pressed her face into his chest, her tears spilling. ‘Thank you, thank you.’

‘Darcie?’ He framed her face in his hands.

She gazed up at him. ‘You’ve given me everything.Everything.’

‘Ditto.’

Darcie melted into the kiss and felt that familiar hunger kick. She would never, ever get enough of her handsome husband.

‘I did the test this morning, while you were downstairs with Lily.’ She’d been so nervous, so excited. ‘So you’re not going in to the office today?’ She smiled.

‘How can I?’ he asked with mock innocence. ‘You told me to come back to bed.’

She giggled.

‘So I figure you’re not going in to the office either,’ he winked.

She wasn’t. She’d taken on a job working for an organisation upskilling vulnerable women so they could take charge of their personal finances, re-enter the workforce if they’d been out a while, or escape unsafe situations. It was rewarding and invigorating. But while she loved it, she needed the break today to celebrate this moment with him.
