I take a deep breath in the hallway.

That’s not going to end well for the hotel. I’ll probably get a scathing review and a one-star rating from the world’s top travel magazine.

But I don’t care about that right now. Lauren is my number one priority and I don’t want anything released online that will embarrass her.

She’s all that matters to me now.

ChapterSix

Lauren

“Mr. Wallis?” I say as I knock on the doorframe of his office and peek in. “Are you ready to start the interview?”

He’s sitting behind his huge oak desk with a stunning view of the mountains behind him visible through the giant floor-to-ceiling windows. The sun is setting between two snow-capped peaks and it’s casting out a brilliant orange hue across the sky.

Those sharp vivid blue eyes land on me and my whole body shivers with the intensity of his gaze.

I kissed that man.

It feels surreal. It feels like it was in a dream.

But it wasn’t a dream. It was real. It was so very real.

I can still feel the way my body hummed when his big strong arms were around me. I can still feel the pounding of my heart as he told me he wanted me. I can still feel the erotic sting on my ass from his firm punishing hand.

Just seeing him now—sitting there in his collared shirt with the sleeves rolled up his tattooed arms, long thick beard, shining blue eyes—my body starts to crave him. My head goes all light and I get a bit breathless.

Stop, I warn myself. This is business. You have to keep it professional.

“Come on in,” he says as he stands up. “I’ve been waiting for you.”

He’s so big. He towers over me. Those biceps are as thick as my thighs for god’s sake.

I can still picture him at his cabin out in his element. The snow, the whiskey, chopping wood with hardly any clothes on. I want to see more ofthatside of him.

Stop! This is not the time for that.

I’m trying to be professional, but this man makes it very hard for me to focus and stay on the ball. It’s like my mind transforms into a lovestruck teenage girl whenever he’s around. I don’t get it.

He motions to the seat in front of his desk, so I leave the door open and walk over.

“Can I say something first?” I say as I stand in front of his desk.

“Of course,” he says as he sits down while looking at me. “I always want you to be honest and speak your mind with me, Lauren.”

“Good.” I take a deep breath and look at the mountains so I can spit this out. “I know this has been a… strange day. But today is not indicative of how I normally conduct myself at work. I am a professional and I wouldneverdo anything inappropriate.”

“Inappropriate like kissing your boss at work?”

My cheeks flare up as I squirm. He’s trying to throw me off my game again, but I refuse to let him.

“Precisely,” I say with my shoulders back and my chin up. “I would like to interview for the manager position. Please treat me like you would any other candidate.”

He’s watching me with amusement as I sit down. I keep my back straight as I place my prepared notes on my lap.

“But you’re not like any other candidate,” he says as he leans back in his chair with his bright blue eyes on me. “You’re not like anyone I’ve ever met.”

“Well, you’re going to have to act like I am. What is your first question?”
