"What are you talking about?" I asked sharply, wiping away the tears and trying to control my rising anger at this man.

He looked surprised by my question but did not back down or try to lie to me. "I believe that your father knows where to find the new queen."

"How would he know that?" I asked angrily.

"I will not tell you how he found out. But he has told me of it and I think that he may be correct in his belief. I must find her. She is destined to be mine."

"Destined? To become yours?" I asked incredulously.

"Yes, she was meant to be mine from the moment of her birth. It is written that I will be joined by her forever. She is my mate, and I must find her."

"I don't understand any of this!" I cried "If she is your mate, you should be able to find her! You would be drawn to her the way..."

"The way what?" he interrupted me.

"Well...the way dragons are drawn to their mates?" I suggested weakly.

"No, child," he sighed, "this union is special. The queen has more than one mate connected to her, but our union will be one built on our mutual power. We will be bound together by our blood, our souls, and by our very essence."

"If she is your mate then you are already bound together," I said confused.

"No, child, only those bonded can share this union. Only the strongest of the strong can have such a bond." He continued softly "There are some among us who believe that they were born to serve her, to protect her, and even to love her. I was born to rule beside her."

"So, if you are bound to her, why do you need me? Why didn't you just ask her?"

"I am asking her, child."

"What are you talking about?" I asked, looking around for a way out.

"You are the new queen. I knew I'd find you."

"That's impossible. I'm no Queen." I insisted.

"You were kept hidden and not allowed to learn how to control your power, but I can help you learn. I'll teach you how to use your magic."

"You're insane. You have the wrong person."

Blaise looked at me, a strange grin appearing on his face as he leaned forward.

“I believe it is you.” He paused for just a moment and then shook his head and continued. “No matter. All of this will become clear in time. But for now, I believe it is best if we get acquainted. The only place to get to know another is where they've been hurt or have something they love so badly. So let us begin.”

He stood up and started walking towards me, slowly coming to stand right in front of me. My eyes narrowed and I stepped backward, keeping my back to the wall. “Let go of me!” I said, pushing against Blaise's arms trying to break free from them but failing.

“Not until you stop resisting. This won't be pleasant.” Blaise said, moving around me, taking in everything that was there. “Tell me, what do you remember?”

I didn't respond, focusing my energy on keeping away from Blaise but nothing happened. I knew that nothing good would come out of telling him anything, but I had to figure out how to escape.

“Come on, what do you remember? Tell me.” Blaise said, grabbing my wrist and pulling me closer. I tried to wiggle away but Blaise kept a firm hold and pressed me harder into the wall.

“Stop it!” I yelled again but even I could barely hear myself above my heartbeat. My mind felt sluggish, almost like it hadn't properly caught up with my surroundings yet.

“Tell me, little princess. It won't hurt too much.” Blaise said, his voice dropping down an octave.

“Please… please don't... Please don't.” My voice cracked but I did my best to hold out. I closed my eyes, praying to the gods that when I opened them, everything would make sense. It never worked like that though. I felt myself drifting closer and suddenly before I could react, Blaise slammed me into the wall again. I gasped at the contact with the surface, feeling my back slide down the wall to the floor. I struggled for a few moments, struggling to keep conscious, but then there was just black.

When I woke up again, everything around me was still dark. I blinked, feeling slightly disoriented as if I'd forgotten where I was. I wasn't sure how long I lay here on the floor, staring blankly into the darkness but eventually, I noticed that the door I had fallen through was open. I glanced around cautiously but saw nobody else in sight and pushed myself up off the ground. My entire body ached but I ignored it and instead went over to the door.

I reached out, my fingers grasping onto the handle, and turned it. The door swung fully open with a loud creak, and I slipped outside. There was a cold breeze hitting my face as I walked toward the edge of the roof. There were a few trees scattered here and there, providing some shelter from the elements. The night sky stretched across for miles and miles and the moon cast its soft glow over everything.
