As I gazed at the Dark One's lifeless body sprawled in the grass, I felt a deep sense of satisfaction course through my body. Grayson and Drako raced to my side with the bodies of the Shadow Dragons behind them.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Drako

"Are you okay, Scarlett?" I asked, pulling her close to me.

"I'll be fine. Is everyone else okay?" She asked, pulling away to look at her father.

She turned to him as I let her go and hugged him with tears streaming down her face. Kane winced in pain as he wrapped his arms around her.

"I was scared I wouldn't see you again," he whispered as he held her.

I could tell that her fear of losing someone she loves had finally overwhelmed her. As the adrenaline from running into danger subsided, I saw tears fall down her face. We were all so relieved to get out of there alive. After everything we'd been through, after what we'd seen… It was a miracle.

"So was I," she whispered.

A soft white light surrounded them, for a minute.

Suddenly everything felt calmer, and my mind was more at ease. Kane pulled away from Scarlett and smiled.

"My injuries, they are all gone," he grinned.

"There are some benefits to being Queen," she said with a smile.

Kane looked over at Scarlett as he wiped away a tear. He was happy, but also sad. He was thankful, but also heartbroken. The thought that he would never see those eyes again tore at his heart.

"Samuel?" Scarlett asked, holding out the amulet.

"Yes, thank you," he replied, taking the necklace from her hand.

"I can't believe that stealing his necklace is all it took to defeat him," Grayson said.

"I'm sure whatever he was chanting to himself helped as well," Kane said, "and, of course, my daughter's magic."

"I'm sorry," I interrupted, "I am just wondering what we are going to do now. I can't stay here, Blaise's men are going to come after us, Scarlett is the queen, and I'm not even sure what to do with that information. What does it mean?"

There was silence while everyone considered my question.

Finally, Grayson answered.

"It means you're in a dangerous situation, but it also gives us options to deal with it. For starters, we could go to war and take on whatever is left of Blaise's men, or we could run."

Scarlett scoffed at that, "They'll never give up chasing me."

Kane agreed with her, "We could get away, if nothing else, but it would mean leaving everything behind.

"So what will it be?" Grayson asked everyone.

"What's your plan?" Samuel asked.

"I don't have one yet," Grayson admitted, "but I think the only way that we'll win this is if we attack first. That is our best shot at defeating them."

"What about the Queen?" Sam asked.

Grayson nodded, "Ask her."

"Blaise's men are loyal. They are not going to let his death go unpunished. They will be looking for you, even if you are the queen." I told Scarlett.
