Gage nodded. “Hey, Hawk.”

Dani looked up, too. “Hi, Hawk.”

“Hey, Dani. How are you?”

She nodded but went back to staring at her screen.

“Don’t mind her. She’s working on something,” Gage said with a smile.

Hawk had no idea what she was hacking, but her fingers were moving in a blur on the keyboard, and her eyes remained glued to the screen. “Do you want to move so we can talk?” he asked.

“Nah. She’ll just tune us out. No need to move.” Gage rolled over to another computer and brought up a picture on the screen. “This is what we think Najeddine will carry the key in.”

The picture was of a man dressed in a suit walking across the tarmac at what looked to be a private airfield, carrying a small case in one hand. Gage blew up the image of the case so they could see it better. It was black, about four by six inches and about two inches wide. There appeared to be a screen of some kind inset on one side.

“Is that some sort of biometric wallet?” Hawk asked.

Gage nodded. “We think so, yes. But it’s not just fingerprints. It’s an iris scanner.”

“Shit,” breathed Mitch. “They aren’t playing.”

“Yeah,” his brother agreed. “We think he’s going to use this because the man in this picture is one of the members of the Moroccan royal family, and he and Najeddine are tight. It’s also perfect for the situation, small enough to tuck inside his jacket pocket. Not obvious. But also hard as hell to break into.

“When you think about it, it’s the perfect choice. Let’s say Najeddine goes to the party, but the wallet gets stolen there somehow. Only he can open it, so the key is his, and so is the spot on the board even though he may not be in direct possession of it when the key itself enters the room.”

Hawk cocked his head. “But how does he get into the room in that scenario?”

“Good question. Not sure but he must have some kind of plan.”

“And so do you, I’m guessing, when it comes to dealing with the wallet.”

Gage grinned. “We have a few ideas. Once Dani finishes up here, then we’ll firm up the plan. I have Alex working on something as well.”

Mitch snorted. “Why am I not surprised that my girlfriend is involved in something nefarious?”

“You would be disappointed if she wasn’t,” his brother said.

“True,” Mitch agreed and then stood up. “It’s just gone three. I’m late for a meeting. I’ll catch up with you guys later. Hawk, you okay to stay here?”

Hawk nodded. “I’m good.”

Mitch turned and walked out.

“Hawk, we’ve got this under control. If you’re up for it, I think it would be a good idea for you to go down to the gun vault and choose what you want for tomorrow night. It’s in the basement along with a gun range. You can practice. You can also hit the gym if you want. It’s on the third floor.”

“How do you have space for a gun range in the basement,” Hawk asked as he stood.

"We own a few of the buildings on the right side of this one but not the left. We pushed through a couple of basements to create the space we wanted.”

“Smart.” Hawk was impressed. They’d thought of everything.”

“Gunnar,” Gage called. “Can you take Hawk down to the basement and get him set up?”

“Sure.” Gunnar stood up and flicked his dark hair out of his eyes. “Happy to.”

“Thanks,” Hawk said. “I think I’ll take you up on the gym as well. That sounds good. I’ll check back with you later.”

Gage nodded, and Hawk followed Gunnar to the gun vault. Half an hour after that, he was in the gym. Working out soothed his jangled nerves. It also put him in a meditative state, something he needed. Remy was throwing him off his game. He was normally so even-keeled, so in control. Around her, he was all over the map. If whatever Gage was cooking up was going to work, he needed to keep a level head, something he hadn’t been very much of in the last twenty-four hours.
