Hawk stared at her. “No. Just no fucking way am I living like that.” He got up and went to stand in front of her. He placed a hand on either side of her head. “You listen to me. I have no problem marrying you. I’m in love with you. I have been since the first moment I saw you. I stayed away from you for six weeks because my doctor told me I couldn’t have sex and because I felt guilty for not doing a better job protecting you. I almost got you killed. Twice. Honey, we are partners. Whatever comes, we’ll face it together.” His stomach knotted. “Unless you would rather I kept my distance.”

She blinked. “No… I… That is…” She paused and then she whacked him on his arm hard. “Six weeks because you felt guilty? Fucking seriously? I thought you hated me for what I’d done. I’ve been torturing myself for six fucking weeks! And you love me?” She whacked him again. “Don’t ever do that again. Don’t ever shut me out like that! You’re my only family. I can’t live with you being angry at me!”

He took a beat to let what she was saying fully sink in. Then he started to smile. It turned into a grin. “Do you love me, Remy?”

She glared at him. “Six weeks!”

“Do you love me?” The smile was gone. “Tell me, Remy,” he growled.

“Fine.” She crossed her arms over her chest. “I love you. But you have some serious making-up to do. Six long weeks’ worth.” Then she frowned. “Are you cleared for sex?”

The grin was back. “You bet your ass.” He swooped down and captured her lips in a scorching kiss.

CHAPTERTHIRTY

“Inow pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”

The words were music to her ears. She smiled up at Hawk. He bent down and kissed her hard on the mouth.

“Enough of that, you two. There’s champagne to drink, and I like the look of the hors d’oeuvres downstairs,” Mitch said with a smile.

Alex batted him on the arm. “Don’t mind him.”

Remy laughed. “It’s okay. I’m kind of hungry, too.”

They made their way back downstairs to the living area. She and Hawk had gotten married on the roof of the Callahan Security building with everyone there. Gus had flown back for the wedding and was currently chatting the ear off Lacy.

Alex came over to her. “I meant what I said before. You have talent. Swing by when you can, and I’ll teach you some tricks of the trade.”

Remy grinned. “I like the sound of that.” She glanced around the room. This was her family. They might not be blood, but they were the people she could count on whenever she needed to. That’s what family was. “I miss you, Gramps,” she whispered.

Hawk wrapped his arms around her waist. “He’s here with us. I just know it.”

She nodded. “I’m sure he is.” She stretched up and kissed herhusband. She loved the sound of that. He broke off the kiss and gave her a hug. He whispered in her ear, “You’re mine now. Always and forever.”
