"Actually, you would find him interesting," Gerri said, leaning against the counter. "He's a very wise, very educated man for his time."

Ellie gave the student a smile as she pointed in the direction of the medical journals, then turned back to Gerri. She doubted she would find this person interesting given the kind of book that was. She expected something … different, to say the least.

"My friend has every book you could think of in his library, and I figured he might enjoy this a little. Fill in his already plum-full shelves."

That caught her attention. There may actually be more to this mystery man than she originally judged. She looked back at Gerri, raising an eyebrow.

"He has his own library?"

Gerri nodded with a grin. "He does. The last time I was over, I realized he was missing this and decided to be nice and gift it to him."

Suddenly she wished she had the same. A space filled with books and anything she wanted. She would never leave. It was honestly every librarian's dream.

"You know." Gerri wiggled her eyes. "I could introduce you. You guys have a lot in common."

She snorted, and another student came to the counter to check out some books. She turned away, trying to imagine it. She liked the idea. Going out on a date with someone who had their own library. Talking nonstop about every book she could think of.

And they were probably wealthy.

But that was a fairy tale, and this was reality. There was no chance of that ever happening. They wouldn't have anything in common, even if Gerri thought so.

"You have a good day," she said to the student before looking at Gerri. Gerri was still leaning on the counter, holding her same smile as always. A talent Ellie wished she'd picked up.

"So? Thoughts on meeting him? I could totally arrange a day."

She shrugged. "There would be no point, Gerri. We won't have anything in common." She chuckled after a moment. "Besides, what would a guy with a library need from me anyway?"

Gerri's smile only seemed to grow. "Every library needs a librarian now, doesn't it? I'm sure he needs someone to keep his books in line and maybe attend to his other needs."

She could tell where Gerri was leading, really trying to hook her in, but she knew better. She shook her head. "Gerri, I'm sure he already has one of those. If he has a library, he's got money. He could probably have more than one if he wanted."

Gerri giggled. "But he doesn't."

She shrugged, pulling at a few of the books on her cart. "Thank you for the books and the offer of meeting a man, but I think I'm good."

"Oh, before I forget." Gerri opened her purse and dug around for a second. "Another reason I came is I'm hosting a theater production. It's a very special one. We are doingRosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. All of the proceeds are going to charity, and I would really like it if you could come. It's going to be such a fabulous party, and I figured you would love to see it."

She could tell there was more behind the ticket, but she didn't bother asking. Even if she did, Gerri wouldn't tell her.

Gerri slid the ticket across the counter, and she looked down at it. Her eyes landed on the price, one of the things she always checked before she did anything.

"Oh lord." She frowned, looking at Gerri. "I can't afford that. Please, don't tempt me to sell a kidney."

Gerri chuckled and shook her head. "No, sweetie, this is a gift. I'm putting it on, this ticket will cost me no extra money to give to you. I want you to come. You'll love it, and I honestly think you deserve it. You work hard. You've been such a sweetheart and helped me every time I come in." She slid the ticket back to her. "It's my treat. Please come. I'll be insulted if you don't show up."

She chewed on her inner cheek. How could she refuse her now? She couldn't. So, she gave her a smile and nodded, grabbing the ticket.

"All right, but only because you're twisting my arm." She gave her a smile. "Thank you for the ticket."

"I'll see you there. Do come and say hi to me when you arrive." With that, Gerri turned and headed out, waving as she walked.

She looked down at the ticket, wondering what she should

MASON

Mason tried to relax next to Fred, his accountant, and close friend, but he was growing antsy in the tin can of a helicopter. He never did well in tight places for a long time. The longer the trip took, the quicker he would grow irritated.
