Eventually, Mason sat up and looked at the marks on her neck. They were merely surface wounds, but he found them beautiful upon his beloved's flawless skin.

“Mason,” Ellie said.

“Yes, my love?” he replied.

“I think we need to incorporate more biting into our routine,” she quipped.

They both let out a deep belly laugh and knew their lives would consist of that single sensation of contentment.

EIGHTEEN

ELLIE

Ellie and Mason began a smooth transition into consistently dating, staying with Ellie at her apartment in Scaramouche and only leaving when his business required it. Ellie wasn’t completely used to having someone around so often, but she was starting to love the feeling of knowing when she got home from work that he’d be there.

In between their loving days basking in each other’s glow, Mason would take Ellie to potential homes they could share together. Having someone care that much about her opinion was so very overwhelming that it sent her into spirals of panic.

One evening after returning from looking at a dazzling mansion near a lake, Mason detected her sensations.

“I know this has been a lot,” Mason said, facing the road. “But I just want to ask you one more question, if that's okay.”

Ellie sat in the passenger’s seat, wriggling around with anticipation. They had just seen a massive house that was astounding, and beyond anything she could have ever imagined. It had an indoor and outdoor pool, a tennis court, a giant greenhouse, nearly seven separate bedrooms, a high-ceiling dining room, a lounge, and so much more she could barely recall.

But she nodded anyway, wanting to trust that Mason had her best intentions in mind.

He grinned as he drove and spoke softly.

“If you could have one thing, one thing specifically, in your dream house, what would it be?”

Without thinking twice, Ellie responded, smirking at the man who had marked her neck a mere week before.

“A library,” she said confidentially.

Mason didn’t say anything more on their drive home. They merely drank some wine once they got there and made love on the couch.

The next weekend, Mason informed Ellie that he had a special date planned for them. It set her heart ablaze whenever she heard him planning things for them without her having to worry about any of the details. It excited her but also made her a bit nervous.

She was so used to having some level of control that letting her lover have it all felt like she was giving up the use of her hands. But she breathed in deeply and let him take the reins; she needed to trust him.

Mason took her out on one of his extraordinary yachts up on the coast near his property. It was an entire-day event, filled with spoils and glamorous amenities Ellie had only dreamed of.

It was a glorious day of privacy where Ellie and Mason basked in each other’s presence, wearing matching ruby-red swimsuits, and both of them were looking as hot and sexy as ever. It was the first time Ellie had felt like royalty, and she knew it wouldn’t be the last.

They sat for lunch at the glass observation bottom as the liner cruised the sparkling sea. Ellie watched as mammals and fish swam in freedom, seeming to fly underwater within their own isolated universe.

“What would you like to eat, love?”

With two gin and tonics he retrieved from their stocked bar, Mason walked to their table with a wide smile. Ellie was struck by how fit he was, how handsome yet humble. She really couldn’t believe that someone like him would put so much work into keeping her happy.

“Hmm,” Ellie said, adjusting her sunglasses. “What is on the menu?”

Mason palmed their drinks down on the table, then sweetly kissed her nose. He cupped her face as she bit her lip like a bashful child.

“Absolutely anything you want, my precious. My cook is onboard and is ready to spoil you rotten.”

Ellie felt herself start to blush but let the blood run through her cheeks anyway. The man was her mate, after all. There wasn’t any point in hiding how he made her feel.

She reached up and traced her fingers along the marks on her neck as she ruminated about her meal.
