Gerri pulled back and kissed Ellie lightly on the cheek. It felt warm as though she was her own daughter.

“You are the one who did it, Ellie,” Gerri said. “You opened yourself, and look what happened. You found love.”

Ellie held Gerri close again, letting go of any anxiety or apprehension she previously held. She let it all go, squeezing her like she was both her friend and her mother.

When it came to the procession, Ellie walked onto the eggshell-white silk streaming down the aisle, spatters of pink rose petals dropped at her feet. She watched their friends and co-workers stare at her with awe, and she fluttered her eyes up to her future husband.

He was tall and dashing, his eyes blazing like the center of a jewel in the desert. The accent on his suit and tie matched those beautiful irises of his as he watched her come down the aisle with a giant smirk on his face.

She felt his love move through her so sharply that she swore there was a moment where she hovered.

They both said their vows, which they had written themselves, then proceeded to kiss each other in a first act as husband and wife. Ellie felt tingles all over her body, projecting her sensations into their beautiful and divine future.

They held their reception on the property of Mason’s home with glowing aesthetic lighting and blue trimmed accents. They danced together, drank, and celebrated as one person, unified by their undying love.

They made love that night in his mansion as the remnants of their celebration sat silently in the yard. Ellie felt like she just might burst with happiness, holding him so close that she thought she would merge into his body.

The next two days were exotic bliss. Mason had been keeping a secret from her. She just knew it. He would often get phone calls, give her a sweet wink, and move into another room. The second morning after their wedding, they were sitting on his balcony drinking coffee after just rising from bed.

“So, what do you think about going for a drive today?”

Ellie sighed, finishing up her flavorful hazelnut blend. “I think I can encourage myself to get out of the house, my husband,” she quipped.

Mason gave her a quick smile, finished up his coffee, then took hers back into the bedroom. She sat up, furrowing her brow at him.

“What has you moving so quickly?”

The smile was glued to his face. He placed the mugs down, then motioned for her to come inside. She did so, wrapping the robe around her tightly.

He kissed her nose, then walked to the bathroom. “Get dressed,” he said, looking mischievous. “I’ll meet you downstairs in twenty minutes.”

Ellie was getting used to how precise Mason was, but even at that moment, it seemed oddly specific. She put a sweater and jeans on, then topped them with a jacket once she got downstairs.

When she went down, she found Mason wearing a dress shirt, dress pants, and a jacket he often wore when he was heading out to the office. Ellie felt self-conscious, looking down at her casual outfit.

“Should I dress up more?” she asked, curling her lip downward.

He looked her up and down, adoring every inch of her. “You look perfect,” he replied.

Mason opened the door, a rush of autumn wind brushing into the house. He led her to the car they normally used when going out for a simple run.

Ellie was still feeling suspicious and crossed her arms as he pulled out of the driveway. “You’re up to something, aren't you?”

Mason shrugged but continued grinning ear to ear. "What if I am?”

Ellie shook her head and then gazed out the window. She watched as their home disappeared behind them as a forest blasted by in a blend of green and wood brown.

She stayed silent as he took an abrupt turn a few miles away from where they were living. She shot a look at him, continuing to frown.

“What is going on, Mason?” she asked, feeling a bit nervous.

He shook his head again. “Good things come to those who wait,” he whispered.

Ellie scoffed, then reached out to squeeze his thigh. He remained unaffected, his eyes gleaming like the road.

“You are something else, my love,” Ellie said.

They continued on without a word. The only sound present was the rhythmic beating of her heart.
