He watched Fred stare at him for a moment, and he worried he might ask him if he was okay. Fred had been working with him for so long that he could tell.

Fred shrugged instead, and they headed deeper into the club. They stopped when they reached the packed lounge. Wealthy patrons were eating exquisite meals, and the wet bar was full of people waiting patiently for their drinks to be made. It was exactly how you'd want a club to look.

It didn't take long for his eyes to land on Gerri Wilder, an old friend of his sitting in the back corner. He would usually see her when he was in town, which wasn't often, but enough that they could say they were friends.

She was wearing a long green dress dripping in lovely jewelry, and her hair was neatly pinned back. She looked, as always, sleek like a model. He had to admit for her age, he was impressed.

He headed over to discuss the events of the charity. She had brought it up before, and he hadn't gotten all the details yet. But he stopped when he noticed she wasn't alone in her booth. She was sitting with another woman.

The woman wore a long black dress which showed off her curves nicely. Her long brown hair was curled and pinned to the side, showing most of her face from an angle. He could see she was definitely a sweet person, but he didn't know her.

And he knew everyone. "A scotch, please," Fred said to the bartender, wiggling an eyebrow at a girl sipping a drink. Mason looked over and nudged Fred.

Fred turned as he pointed. "Who is that?" he asked, interested.

"Gerri?" Fred answered, grabbing his glass.

"No." He shook his head. "Who is she sitting with? I don't think I know her."

After a moment, Fred shrugged. "I don't know. I don't think I've seen her before. Maybe someone from out of town."

Mason frowned. "Maybe."

He could tell neither of them thought so. Gerri knew a lot of people, but she wouldn't bring someone from out of town to the club. Not for something important like tonight.

It was a puzzle for sure.

"I wonder if she's got a boyfriend." Mason tilted his head, looking at her hand, but she moved it. "Or a husband."

He felt his heart speeding up, and he was curious. No one had ever had that effect on him, and he'd been with countless women. Most women threw themselves at him, so for him to want someone was a change from his normal pace.

He watched Fred down his drink before he squinted his eyes. "I don't see a ring. So, no go on the husband."

He wasn't someone to wonder and do nothing. He could stand there and question everything, or he could go over and introduce himself. He liked that idea better.

"Another scotch," Fred said. But Mason was already walking away.

He crossed the room, heading straight to the table. He could feel his heart skip a beat, and he held a smile. Getting a woman's attention wasn't anything complicated for him. It was pretty easy. He was good at sweet talking the ladies. But he always made sure to let them know it was never anything serious. He couldn't stay in one place long enough for that.

He was almost halfway to the table when she looked over her shoulder, and her eyes landed on him. He froze. A sudden heat covered his entire body, and a strong attraction ripped through his stomach. He nearly doubled over with how quickly it hit him.

Her blue eyes seemed to suck him in, and she held a sweet smile with light red lipstick. He could smell her, and good God, she smelled divine.

His beast growled, suddenly hungry for action. His stomach stirred in the sudden need to get laid. He bit down hard on his tongue, fighting the urge to do something stupid.

He looked at Gerri, who seemed to be smirking. He watched her tap her fingers on the table like she knew what was coming.

He looked back at the girl, and his heat only seemed to grow. She was his fated mate.

THREE

ELLIE

She was having a hard time catching her breath. This man, this handsome, breathtaking man, was walking toward them. She was utterly stunned. Who was he? And what did he want from them?

He had a primal look in his eyes, and she couldn't look away. It was like her body wouldn't allow her to. It seemed he was having the same problem.

This was like a moment taken from a dream. Watching him walk toward her with that look and the way he remained confident as he did. She felt her entire body go rigid.
