Every moment that Mars had spoken with Gerri flashed through his mind. He studied the lines on Rhiannon’s face as he figured out what to say.

Of course, Rhiannon was involved with the shelter project somehow.

Everything made sense now.

Rhiannon leaned against her desk, her arms crossed over her chest. Her dark, straight brows were furrowed.

Her expression was hard, as though she was waiting for him to challenge her at any moment. They stood in silence as Mars thought about the situation they were in.

Finally, he reached a conclusion.

“It shouldn’t be a problem,” he said, his voice slow. He could tell that Rhiannon was jumpy about the whole predicament. “I’ve had no direct involvement with the leasing agreement. Anyway,” he continued, taking a step toward Rhiannon, “the leasing agreement is between my company and the charity. Not between us.”

“It isn’t that simple,” she said, though Mars was pleased to see that her face had softened slightly.

Her reluctance was obvious, but her arms dropped to her side, revealing her curvy frame.

He took a step back as the bear inside him growled, eager for release. Eager to take Rhiannon right there in her office.

Mars decided to take another step back, clearing his throat as he did so.

Just then, Rhiannon’s phone buzzed several times.

“Shit!” The expletive sounded unbelievably sexy coming from her. “I can’t talk right now. I have to run to a meeting.”

He stepped aside as Rhiannon gathered up her laptop and some files and stuffed them into a worn-out leather bag.

She moved quickly and efficiently, and Mars knew it wouldn’t do him any good to get in her way. Rhiannon definitely wouldn’t appreciate anyone, especially Mars, getting between her and her job.

“Okay, then,” he said as they walked out of her office together. “I’ll see you around, I guess.”

Her scent enveloped him as she rushed to the elevator, and he shuddered slightly.

Mars couldn’t stop the low rumbling in his chest as he watched her hips sway away from him.

He was startled out of his reverie when his own phone buzzed. It was Lenard. He was needed to sign some papers.

Mars drove backto his office too fast. He slowed down before he was pulled over, and his sleek sedan purred in protest at the sudden change.

As he weaved easily in and out of traffic, all Mars could think of was Rhiannon. Her eyes, her smile, the way her hair fell down her back. He had never been surer that she was his mate than he was at that moment. Her scent still lingered around him, sharp and fresh.

Her scent evoked images that spiraled across his mind. Images of memories they hadn’t made yet.

Images of a wedding, a house, and children.

Damn it, you haven’t even been on a second date yet,a dark voice in his head said fiercely. It was the mating bond chemistry making him slightly crazy. But he didn’t mind.

In fact, he wanted to lean into the mating bond. He wanted the chemistry to consume him. And he wanted Rhiannon to feel the same way.

The only problem he faced was figuring out how to convince her to go on a second date.

He was pretty sure that if they did, then she’d realize they were perfect for one another. And the rest would be history.

Mars was pulling into the parking lot of his office building before he knew it. Lenard was waiting for him on the fifth floor. The highest floor of the building was entirely dedicated to the expansion of the Casey real estate empire.

The fifth floor of the building was the only place Mars spent any real time aside from Casey’s.
