“I am seeing him later,” Rhiannon said dreamily. “So that will definitely be happening.” Shivers of pleasure raced across her skin. Every nerve in her body seemed to prickle at the thought.

“So, I have been wanting to ask,” Ellyn said after they both finished their first mugs. “What is it like dating a shifter? Isn’t it weird?”

Rhiannon paused as she considered her best friend’s question. The fact that Mars was a shifter was always on her mind.

She had noticed the differences between him and the human men she had dated. His body was always slightly warmer. He was stronger and faster, and his reflexes were perfect. He had perfect eyesight and hearing. And she had heard him growl more than once.

Especially when his hands were on her body, and his lips were on hers.

She should feel some kind of trepidation every time she thought about him. But instead, she felt excited. The idea of his strength and slight domination over her made her melt.

And she wasn’t even sure why.

“No,” Rhiannon answered honestly. “It doesn’t make any difference to me at all.”

Ellyn nodded thoughtfully, then splashed more wine into both their mugs.

“When do you think the honeymoon stage is going to end?” Ellyn asked a little while later.

They had been sitting in silence, enjoying the wine, and the question caught Rhiannon off guard.

“What do you mean?” Rhiannon asked Ellyn cautiously. She knew her friend just had her best interests at heart. She wouldn’t ask a question like that unless she was genuinely concerned for Rhiannon.

“I mean, he is a billionaire. Doesn’t he have entire empires to run? When is he going to find time for charity work with the poor and needy?”

“I think he has changed a lot,” Rhiannon replied.

“That’s good. You deserve the best, Rhi. I don’t want you to end up with someone who only has a fleeting interest in what you do.” Ellyn spoke fervently as they finished up the last of their wine.

Rhiannon put on a pot of coffee after Ellyn left the office for home. Mars would be picking her up in half an hour.

She didn’t want to be too tipsy to enjoy their date. But she couldn’t ignore Ellyn’s words as she drank the swill that they called coffee.

Had Mars actually changed? Did he have a real interest in philanthropy and charity work?

In Rhiannon’s experience, billionaires rarely gave a rat’s ass about the poor and desperate. She could not help but wonder if he actually cared about the work she was doing. Or was it all an act to seduce her?

Don’t think like this, she told herself fiercely.Don’t ruin something good before it has even started. Mars deserves the benefit of the doubt.

And he did.

Her phone buzzed when she emptied the coffee pot and put away her mug.

Looking at it, Rhiannon saw that it was Mars. He was waiting for her outside her office.

A thrill of excitement sparked through her, and she inhaled deeply. Just the thought of being around Mars made her heart jump.

She quickly changed into a sundress and sandals in her office and stuffed her work clothes into her bag.

Then she dashed downstairs to his vehicle.

“You look stunning,”Mars said it for the third time as they drove away from uptown Oklahoma City.

Rhiannon blushed happily again. She knew she’d never get tired of hearing Mars compliment her.

“Thank you,” she said. Rhiannon looked at him appreciatively. “You look very handsome too. So are you going to tell me where we’re going?”
