Mars felt like an arrow had stuck his heart, but he knew she was right. He drummed his fingers on the patio table, ready to burst open with a darkness he’d never shared with anyone.

It was terrifying.

“I appreciate your honesty, Rhi. I want you to know, and I hope you believe me when I tell you that my eyes are opened. I want to be by your side as I navigate the best ways to be of service to people who have suffered so very much.”

A smile grew on her lips. It calmed him a little.

“What else, Mars?”

Her voice was low, placid in the haze of rain. She remained still as he spoke down to the ground, afraid to meet those penetrating eyes.

“When I was five years old, my grandfather was murdered in the city. It was likely a mugging gone wrong, but that made my father lose complete faith in the community. That’s why he gave up on all the charitable donations.”

Rhi padded closer, placing her mug on the table. She touched Mars’s cheek tenderly, raising it gently to meet her stare. When Mars saw it, he finally felt like he had come home.

“Go on,” she said affectionately.

Mars sighed.

“I’m sure it put this idea in his mind that people weren’t worth helping. But even I knew then, as I do now, that people are the products of their environment. It was a terrible accident that I wish could have been avoided, for everyone’s sake.”

Rhi’s beautiful hazel eyes swelled with tears, and Mars felt his throat become gravelly. He had been afraid of how she would react to the story as if it was justification for being such an ignorant bastard. She moved nearer to him, and he opened his legs so she could pull his head to her chest.

Her body felt like a home he’d never had. She stroked his hair as she whispered softly into his ear.

“Thank you for sharing that with me, Mars,” she said. “It must have been hard for you to understand something so complex as a child. But I’m here for you now.”

The weight on his shoulders disappeared into the rain, which had begun to tap lightly once more against the roof. Rhi continued caressing his head lovingly, kissing the crown as he ran his hands up and down her back.

“You are such a beautiful soul, Mars. I hope you know that. I don’t need you to be anything but who you are.”

He’d never been more at ease. His heart pounded in his chest as he leaned deeper into her, her breasts a perfect pillow for his tired head until Rhi began to straddle him, lifting one leg over his lap and then the other. His cock instant hardened in his pants, her spontaneity rushing blood to the appendage with the crack of a whip.

“What are you doing?” he asked, beaming at her.

“I want you,” she whispered, bringing her forehead to his. “I want you right here, right now. I’m going to make love to you in the rain.”

RHIANNON

Rhi had been having questionable thoughts about Mars and how he related to her work, her passion, and her life. The thoughts didn’t take away from her attraction to him, but it did make her wonder how she could possibly build a life with someone with such a lack of awareness of suffering beyond their own scope of living.

There was no doubt in her mind that she wanted him, emotionally, physically, and intimately, to get to know him in ways she had never known anyone. But a touch of doubt sat in her mind, jostling around like a loose bolt.

Giving had been her entire life, so if she wanted to have a life with anyone, they would need to understand that. Working as a lawyer and doing pro bono work for those who could not otherwise afford legal work was often scoffed at by other lawyers, and while it was clear that Mars did not scoff, there was certainly a detachment.

But watching him at the shelter that day, at first, how he seemed out of place, but then opening to experiences that weren’t his own made Rhi begin to feel differently. It was clear that he was out of his element, but he went with her, listening intently and doing just as she asked, not seeming condescending or disrespectful.

Then, she watched him tell the story about his grandfather. The way his stark blue pupils shot through the haze of the rain made her body feel warm all over. It was then that she knew the way she felt about Mars wasn’t going to falter by his inexperience with charitable giving.

Rhi adored the look in his eyes when she straddled him. The shock, the excitement, the arousal. She ran her hands through his hair and then grabbed his hands, which were limply placed aside, unsure how to go forward.

She smacked them down onto her plump ass, and she groaned at the sense of their strength. Every time Mars touched her, it felt like she had been starved for affection for months, maybe even years. It was a sensory overload she was becoming addicted to.

“I’m going to make love to you in the rain,” she said in a breathy, disarmingly sexy voice.

As always, their lips met, violent with passion, as rain beyond their shelter began to tap gently. Her nipples hardened under her blouse, her panties dampening as Mars gave into his animalistic nature. It turned her on astronomically when he took the bull by the horns in their sex life, but sometimes, it was beyond empowering to be the one in the driver's seat.
