“Claim me. Take me. Make me yours.”

“It’ll be a scratch on your hip, okay? A mark that tells all other shifters you are mine.”

A shiver rippled up her body. “Okay,” she breathed.

Moving over Rhi’s beautiful body, Mars positioned himself so he could slide his cock into her throbbing pussy. As he did so, she came again.

“Rhi, I don’t want to come just yet.” Mars clenched his teeth and waited.

Feeling Mars’s thick, hot cock inside her, Rhi couldn’t help but continue moving. She felt it flex once, then twice. “I’m com …”

Rhi looked at Mars as the force of his own orgasm hit him. She saw his canines lengthen as he thrust forward one last time, and his claw dug into her skin as they rode their highs together.

He had marked her, and now, they were more connected than ever. Both of them were boneless, exhausted, and just lay on her bed, panting.

TWENTY-THREE

RHIANNON

The new shelter was finally open with Rhi and Mars in attendance. And thanks to extensive media coverage, it was common knowledge that she and Mars were a couple.

“Mars, look. There’s Gerri Wilder. We need to greet her.”

Mars took Rhi’s hand in his own and moved slowly in Gerri’s direction. Their progress was slow as the shelter was crowded with attendees who were celebrating the grand opening.

“Gerri. Gerri.” Mars raised his hand and waved it slightly, getting Gerri’s attention.

“Well, Mars, how are you? Rhi, it is wonderful to see you. Congratulations on such a huge achievement opening this shelter. Now, you have more room for survivors of abuse. And congratulations on your relationship.”

Mars leaned down to whisper this into Gerri’s ear, though Rhi could still hear him. “Gerri, we want to thank you sincerely for matchmaking us. Life has been so full for both of us.”

“What can I say? I’m good at what I do.”

Rhi also leaned down. “Thank you for convincing me to take a chance. If I hadn’t …” Rhi shook her head, “my life would be so dull.”

“Not to mention being stalked by that wolf shifter who wanted to kill you.”

Rhi shivered. “I hope never to experience something like that ever again.”

“I’m just happy that Mars already loved you and wanted to protect you … even if he couldn’t tell you exactly what was happening.”

Rhi sighed. “I just need to be kept informed of what is going on. He knows that, and we have come to an agreement that makes us very happy.”

“That’s wonderful. Now, my dears, I have some other people to connect with. I will be seeing you.” With that, Gerri walked toward another couple, smiling at them.

After Gerri went her way, Rhi and Mars continued to meet and mingle with other attendees. They were congratulated on successfully opening another badly needed shelter and also on their relationship.

Mars grinned as he accepted the congratulations. Rhi smiled and, sometimes, shed a few tears, thinking of the victims of domestic violence who had died at the hands of their partners.

“We badly needed this space. It has the size the staff needs so that they can introduce new services to survivors and their children. And, hopefully, the survivors will be ready to walk out into new lives better equipped to deal with abusers.”

Finally, the grand opening ended. Mars seemed eager to get them out, and Rhi thought he was just hungry. First, he wanted to walk through the tunnels beneath the ground. “I want to see something in the Concourse. I’ve always been curious about it.”

“Won’t we be late for dinner?” Rhi was confused.

Mars checked his watch. “We have plenty of time, my love.” With that, he took her hand in his and hurried to the entrance to the Concourse. There, they walked until they reached one area that was covered with hundreds of candles and flowers.

Rhi gasped and turned, just slowly taking in the scene. “Mars! What …” She turned to find Mars down on one knee, holding a beautiful engagement ring. “Mars. Oh, my God.”
