I scoffed, then quieted. “He didn’t deserve that title when he was alive, and he sure as shit doesn’t deserve it now. We’ll give him a proper burial if that makes you feel better.”

Somewhere deep and far away where I wouldn’t have to think about his rotting carcass ever again.

She inhaled a deep breath and her gaze hardened. She nodded her head then turned her eyes to Celt. “Do it. Just make sure he doesn’t get seen”—she hitched a thumb my way—“and you don’t get caught.”

She looked fierce like a lioness. Pride hit me like a sucker punch to the chest. It was a feeling I wasn’t used to.

“Come on.” I scooted to my side and grabbed the mop handle, dragging the rolling bucket toward the shop sink. “We need to clean the rest of this place up in case anyone comes looking. The bike’s gotta go too.”

Bou sighed. “I worked my ass off on that bike. Can’t you give it to someone in need or something?”

Celt grunted. “That would be a nope. I brought it in earlier so no one would see it, but it won’t take a detective to figure out Luke has been here if anyone sees it. It’s pretty conspicuous and your work is well known around these parts. It’s getting buried along with its filthy owner.”
