Bou tensed all over.

I wrapped my arm around her waist and her body relaxed. “We’ll follow, Doc. Take care of him. Jackyl?” I searched the scene for my man, my eyes landing on Doc’s ol’ lady.

My tall and wiry man with the hefty beard hopped forward, “Yeah, boss?”

I didn’t immediately look over but studied Kimmers. She no longer looked like a deer in the lion’s den but stood out of the way chewing on a nail. I tipped my head to her. Needed to find someone to help her back home while Doc dealt with Celt.

When Jackyl came to a stop beside me, I blinked. “Find Celt’s keys and grab the black and white. You’re the escort. We don’t need anyone pulling us over. You hear the name of the hospital?”

“Yup.” He hopped off toward the house.

Bou, finally starting to settle in my arms, called after him, “Keys’ll be in the kitchen.”

Jackyl lifted a hand as he took the porch steps in a single leap and disappeared inside the house.

Pulling Bou closer, but sure as hell not releasing the best woman in the world, I turned to Angel, who’d passed Jackyl on the porch heading our way.

I asked Angel, “Story with the house?”

“It’s sacked,” Angel said shaking his head. “I got the women out as you asked then checked back inside.”

I looked at Bou for guidance on what she wanted us to do with it.

She looked at her brother’s house with disgust. “Burn it to the goddamn ground.” She folded her arms over her chest and turned back to where Doc was still situating her brother. “You go. He needs help. We’ll catch up.”

Angel shot me a questioning glance, waiting for my order.

Answering his unspoken question, I said, “You heard my woman. Pack up Celt’s and Bou’s things, take Kimmers wherever the fuck she wants to go, then come back and burn this place down.”

“You got it.” He folded his arms in a mirror image of Bou’s. “Assume you’re headed to Phoenix?”

With his words, Cyd popped back into my brain. I had men back at Bou’s shop watching the son of a bitch, but I wasn’t about to leave my woman again. Angel was right on; I was riding her out to Phoenix to be with her brother. Hell, I wanted to be there for him too—some strange feeling that was. Guess there had to be a first for everything. I ran a hand over my head. “Yeah, can you and the boys get my asshole father to the PD in LA?” I asked, feeling like I was shirking my responsibility.

“Abso,” Angel replied with a single nod.

“Thanks, man. Tell them about Paola’s and the AX3 involvement. Keep them busy with the law while we take care of family.”

Angel furrowed his brows and looked at me sideways.

“Yeah, I know,” I said. And my cheeks heated. The word family had never fallen from my lips. It tastes kinda sweet, I thought, looking at Bou. “Guess some shit just changes a man.”

Bou flashed a small smile, and a spark went off in her eyes as she put her arms around my neck and pulled me closer. Blood had seeped through the sweatshirt covering her chest, but it seemed to have slowed. Still, it needed to be tended to.

“It was only Celt,” she said.

I furrowed my brow in confusion.

“That was raped, I mean. Lynch was going to, I think. But you got there before he did.”

Anger sizzled in my veins at what they had done to her. It was bad enough that they had marked her, and hurt her, but now she was almost defending herself like it was her goddamn fault,

“I’m really fucking glad I did, but Bou, even if he had raped you, you’d never have to explain yourself to me. Those assholes’ actions don’t make a fucking difference to how I feel about you.” I hovered my hand over the bruises on her face, never wanting to see her like this again.

She smiled with the less bruised side of her face. She didn’t reply, but her breath on my lips was all the encouragement I needed to forget about that damage for the moment. I captured her sweet mouth in a possessive, demanding kiss. I tried to be gentle, but I needed to taste her to know she was real and okay, and I think she needed the same. Her responsive lips pushed me on, and I deepened our connection even more.

Angel chuckled. “Looks like you two need a room.”

His words sufficed to bring us up for air, and she hissed a little when we parted. Angel turned on a heel and skipped off to the house to begin the cleanup just as Jackyl appeared, dangling a keyring. Bou pointed him toward the garage.
