A surge of energy rose up in my chest and flooded into every muscle of my body. I wanted to climb inside her and rip the words from her. I needed to know so I could do something, protect her, help her, or if needed, make it go the fuck away. I searched her face as she tried to speak.

“I-I—” Her eyes brimmed with tears as she looked up at me.

“You...?” Damnit, would she just tell me already? “Is he okay?”

“Um, yeah.” Her brows furrowed and she searched my face for several beats.

Then what the actual fuck? I reached for her, but she didn’t come into my arms like she had earlier.

Instead, she dropped her eyes, rubbed away a tear, and quietly said, “I’m... um ... pregnant.”

“Oh.” I sighed, relief pouring through me. Then I jerked, blinked hard several times trying to understand the simple statement. I’d been so worried that the doctor was going to give her bad news about her brother that I hadn’t even thought about the possibility. Realization perking inside sent chills crawling all over my skin. “Wait. What?” I narrowed my eyes at her. It made no sense. “You went back there to see your brother. They just decided to do fucking a pregnancy test?”

But she was more dazed than me and stared off into nothingness, blinking slowly. I’d never seen her so far away. She’d owned the situation after Luke and even after what went down at her brother’s house. But it seemed like this news wrecked her, and that possibility cleaved me in two.

Her voice sounded far away and her brows repeatedly bunched and released as she answered, “No. Dr. Carson did it when I was admitted. Standard protocol, I guess. Just didn’t get the results right away.”

I lifted her chin so I could look into the depths of her eyes again. I needed to gauge what she was thinking. She was perfectly serious. Strange for my woman. And even when our eyes locked, I couldn’t read all the emotions that tangled within her.

“Are you—” I started, but the news was starting to hit me too. I had no fucking clue where to begin.

A baby?

There was so much to do before. I had to take care of... Hell, neither of us had a home suitable for a child. Would I move to The Ridge? Would she move to LA? No. The Ridge, definitely. We had to get our own place.

And what would we name her? It would be a her right? I sure the fuck hoped so. Everything Bou, in tiny little package.

“Hey?” Bou said and rubbed a finger between my brows. “Where’d you go?”

I blinked again, coming back to the waiting room. “Sorry. Uh—” I gave my head a little shake to try to focus. She needed me. “Are you okay?” I asked. “With being pregnant, I mean.”

Her lips turned up in a small smile. “Yeah, I think I am... if you are.”

I grabbed her around the waist and kissed her hard for a long time until I felt the need to make it gentler, more caring, sweeter, and filled with all the love I felt for her—my woman. Our mouths celebrated, and I felt her tear fall onto my cheek. My eyes burned and leaked a little too. At last, I pulled away.

“That’s good, baby doll. Cuz I’m fuckin stoked!”

EPILOGUE

Bou

My heart sang when Wilde said those words. So him. So gruff, but so sweet at the same time. Worry over what he’d say or do or even think had slowed every step I’d taken after Dr. Carson had given me the results of my blood tests. When we’d been together, I’d never considered the possibility of getting pregnant. Dumb, I know. But with everything that happened with Luke then Rex, it simply hadn’t crossed my mind. I lowered my hand to my belly as Wilde kissed me, over and over, and I kissed him back like I might not survive if our mouths separated. With my other arm, I held on for dear life, crying tears full of joy.

“Don’t you two believe in keeping that shit private?” Cook’s familiar voice interrupted.

We parted slowly. I giggled, sniffed, and wiped my nose on my sleeve, then turned to see Cook and Doc coming at us from the elevators. Cook had traded in his frilly apron for a tight t-shirt that read: ‘Ask your doctor if MYKOC is right for you.’

Groaning, Wilde wrapped his arm around my back and pulled me closer. “I see you dressed for the occasion, Cook.”

“Yeah, well.” Hands out, palms up, the burly man gave an oversized shrug.

“What’s doing with you two?” Doc asked, then dipped his head toward me. “Your lashes are wet, doll.”

“Apparently,” I started, glancing up at Wilde who nodded and placed a strong hand over mine on my belly. I smiled with wide delight as I shared. “We’ve got a little one on the way.”
