2004, your skater boy just entered.

Misha was approachable, which is why I looked forward to a night out with him, without the threat of Ares. Small danger lurked in every corner of this house.

“What do you mean?” I picked up on his entry.

He stepped in between Rio and me and slipped one hand in mine. The other he strategically placed at the curve atop my butt. His brow went up, mimicking mine.

Cheeky.

Some playful, wordless banter before he jutted out a hip and led me into a routine.

His moves were stiff, to say the least. He didn’t exactly possess the artistry of a ballet dancer. It was rather an awkward hip hop scene unfold.

Silly, as always, Misha loosened his grip on me to put on a one-man show. He replaced me for a robotic maneuver, making my stomach contract with giggles. I whooped when he took my hands again and into a display of weird bodies that didn’t sync.

“Wicked moves, D,” Rio folded his arms and settled one foot on the bar of the stool. His smile reached to his glittering eyes.

However, I didn’t know to whom that smile was meant for.

“Shouldn’t you say something about mine?” Misha called for Rio’s complimentary response.

I did not miss the way they looked at each other right before the boy from next door took me into a spin.

They held their gaze for a second. I felt like an intruder. Quite the same as when I discovered Rio’s paper. It burned a hole into the counter. Now I did want to inspect that further.

Unless I wanted to ignite Ares’ and Rio’s twin bond, it was best to keep that thought on hold. I didn’t have enough room to step on Rio’s toes.

Twin power, activated.

The camaraderie between the three of us was simple. Loud and obnoxious, certainly when Misha “misplaced” his hand. As if I didn’t feel it slip over my butt cheek.

Rio pulled me against his chest, and a little out of breath, I put my hands on his thighs. His arm banded around my waist. It seemed a move that his brother would approve of if doing himself. Cagey and possessive.

He freed my ear from a lock of hair. “Careful how you’re going to play this date out. Misha’s a sensitive guy.”

I nodded against Rio’s chest.

“Still… If you don’t want it, say it. No means no, remember that.”

What a weird thing to say. No reason to tattle on his brother, who approached proximity dubiously. It would only enhance the heavy layer Ares had already dusted over me.

“You good?” Misha asked.

I smiled and tapped Rio’s knee to unlock his embrace. Everything was cool. Misha was taking me out, and Ares would be an afterthought.

As far as that went.

Against the door of the private entryway, Ares stood with folded arms and ankles. Brooding. Condemning me to hell. Which I would attend as his plus one. No thank you.

I was fairly certain he was forbidding the companionship I was in with that signature scowl.

Darkened eyes poured over me. I swear my toes curled when he measured me up from there. I refused my heart to pound faster with every inch he traveled up.

He could’ve pulled up a pair of horns and a whipping tail. I wouldn’t have known the difference.

“Hey, dude.” Misha said while he strived by, pulling me along the front door. “Don’t wait up.”

Ares’ mouth pulled tight. His eyes blazed. Silver had never been a color so haunting.
