“What?”

“You just seem different,” Everleigh answered, but she spoke softly, almost as if she were talking to herself.

“I’m not even doing anything,” Tatum argued as she turned from Everleigh to the table. She lifted her hand in a halfhearted gesture at her computer and the mug next to it.

“Yeah.” Everleigh gave her a nod. “Yep. That’s it.”

“What? What’s it?”

“You’re glowing.”

“Glowing?” Tatum snorted. “Yeah, that’s not true.”

Everleigh trilled a sharp note of laughter and waved her concern away. “No. I’m not suggesting you’re pregnant.”

“Isn’t that kind of an outdated thing? To say pregnant women glow?”

“Beats me.” Everleigh shrugged. “I don’t think I’ve known anyone pregnant. At least not in my adult life.”

Tatum raised her eyebrows, wondering where Everleigh was going with her comments. Then again, she knew, didn’t she? She felt different. Happy. Lighter. Was it that obvious? Did Adele see it, too? Her cheeks flamed a bit with embarrassment. Did Adele know what Tatum and Charlie had been up to last night?

Reminding herself she was an adult, that she wasn’t a thirteen-year-old girl walking into the classroom the morning after getting her first period and she wasn’t a sixteen-year-old girl who just gave her virginity to her boyfriend and was praying her parents wouldn’t notice and question her, she cleared her throat and looked at Everleigh again.

“Mm-hmm.” Everleigh nodded again. “And?”

“What?”

“Oh come on.” Everleigh rolled her eyes as she pulled the other chair out from under Tatum’s table. “You slept with him, didn’t you?”

“Slept with who?” Tatum glanced back at her computer, shooting for nonchalance. Failing big time, judging from the grin on her friend’s face.

“Charlie Murphy!”

“Sshhh!” Tatum grabbed for her hand and wrapped her fingers around her wrist. “God, I don’t want Adele to hear you.”

“So, you did.”

“I did,” Tatum admitted. “But I’d rather not broadcast it to everyone.”

Everleigh took a peek around the room, which was pretty crowded, as usual.

“How was it?”

Tatum snorted. “You’ve got your own Murphy boy. I doubt you need to ask.”

“Mmm. Right?” Everleigh licked her lips as they tipped up in a slow, smug grin.

“Need a refill?”

Tatum jumped when Adele appeared at the table. This time, the blush rushed her cheeks so fast, she didn’t have a chance to duck her head. Everleigh started to climb from her chair, but Adele simply rested her hand on her shoulder.

“Sit.” She poured a refill for Tatum and looked back and forth between the two of them. “Take a break, Everleigh.”

“Thank you, Adele.” Tatum smiled at the woman praying silently that she didn’t look as guilty as she felt.

“I love my boys, ladies,” Adele said with a smirk. “I just want them to be happy.” Before either of them could respond, Adele continued, “Haven’t seen Charlie this happy in ages.”

When she walked away, calling to a customer across the room, Tatum ducked her head and pinched the bridge of her nose. “Oh my god.”
