"I still don't believe it when people stop me like that," he admitted. "I'm just Axel Gregory, you know?"

"You're more than that to them." I knew he knew that, but believing it was something else. Some people chased fame. He had it happen to him while he was busy playing bass guitar.

Still, he’d Axel would take photos with people all day long if they wanted him to. And he'd still be smiling at the end of it. Unlike the rest of the band. He was the most laid-back person I ever met, but the rest of them had their limits. Me too, so I wasn't judging.

I wound around some people having what looked like a family reunion and smiled at their enthusiasm for each other.

"I guess so,” he said. “It's just weird sometimes. Like they act like know me in person or something. And then I think—maybe I do and I just forgot them." He shrugged and smiled.

"Is that why you're so nice to all of them?" I asked. “In case they’re long lost friends?”

He chuckled and grinned. "Nah, I just appreciate that they like our music. They made us famous, the least I can do is take a photo once in a while."

"That's true, but it’s not the way everyone sees it," I said. I suspected Cord would stay away from fans if he could. Strike—he would have taken over the airport by now. Jett would probably be hiding in the restrooms. Jude would be telling everyone jokes. They might be tight knit, but the guys were all very different in their approaches to fans and life.

We walked in silence until we reached his car. He opened the back and lifted my suitcase to place it inside. For a rock star, he drove an old black, SUV. Axel didn't really do flashy. He left that to the other guys.

He waited until I got in and fastened my seatbelt, and then asked, "On a scale of one to one hundred, how pissed off are you? And how pissed off is Roman?" He gave me a long look like he was trying to figure me out or something.

"A lot of that depends what you say in the next hour or so," I said. "Let's start with the ex-groom."

"Asshole," Axel said.

"His foot?"

"Not broken."

"Where is Jude? He didn't answer any of my messages."

Axel hesitated. "With Mel. I don't think they have any plans to get out of bed until they have to fly to Vancouver."

"So it's serious between them, then?" I asked.

He grinned. "I hope so. Those two have been head over heels for each other since they were kids. If anyone was made for anyone, it's them."

I narrowed my eyes at him. "How much of this did you encourage?"

He started the engine and backed the SUV out of the parking space. "A non-zero number. But it was mostly Mel coming to her senses about what a dick Grayson is."

I nodded and leaned my head back against the seat. "According to Harper, he overstepped with her?"

I looked over at him and for the first time since I'd known him, he actually looked angry. It was brief, but it was there.

"Yeah, he did. I'd like to rearrange his face, but that would cause more problems than it would solve."

"Please don't do that," I said. "It sounds like he got what he deserved from your sister."

His grin was back. "Yeah, he did. She was a badass."

"I can tell you're very proud of her," I said.

"I am, even if she and Jude made a mess for you to fix up."

"I've fixed up worse messes," I said. "I just need to sort out some press releases and a few social media posts. We'll have this all under control in no time."

"I know you will," he said. "You're good at what you do."

Yeah, good, competent, reliable. That's Hales.
