Now that Luc has assured me his feelings for Lola are platonic, I let go of the worry he’ll choose her over me. I guess I allowed my insecurities to blind me from the obvious. I’m determined to not allow thoughts of losing him to other women like years ago. It’s our time now, and I plan to make the most of it.

Which is why I’m excited about attending the charity gala with him tonight. It’s our first foray outside of the office and LEVELS New York. We’ll still maintain the secrecy of our relationship. But at least I’ll be on his arm in a social environment where others will see us together. They may not know we’re a couple. But I do.

And I want to look phenomenal. Stun Luc with my beauty. Hence the need to leave the office early so I can pop over to Bergdorf Goodman. It’s the venerated retail mecca of class, elegance, and sophistication for women, men, children, and home.

“Remember, Blair, darling, you must always stop at Bergdorf’s when in New York City as a well-dressed woman always shops there. You will find pieces exclusive to the store and stand apart from others when you wear them,” my Mum tells me.

Conveniently, Bergdorf’s is across the street from The STEELE Tower. I scheduled an appointment with their top consultant to find a gown swiftly. I’ll have time to return to the hotel, shower, have the glam squad pretty me up, and to dress before Luc arrives. Naturally, we’ll avoid any traffic since we’ll fly in his helicopter to Greenwich to arrive on time for the cocktail hour.

I only have to leave the office early.

“Hmmm. You and Le Renard Argenté seem pretty cozy there, Blair. Care to share?”

Lola’s hazel eyes glitter as she rests her chin on her steepled hands. She waggles her eyebrows. The corners of her mouth curve up as she holds back a giggle.

My face heats as a flush blossoms on my cheeks. My brain forgets how to initiate speech as my mouth opens and closes wordlessly. A few seconds pass before I stumble over a response.

“I… Er… We…”

Lola bursts into a fit of giggles. She laughs until tears slip from her eyes. In between snorts, she dabs the tears with her fingers from her reddened face. As she holds both hands up, palms out, she shakes her head.

“Blair! You crack me up, girl. You should’ve seen your face!”

She makes fish gaping motions with her mouth as her eyes shine with mirth. They dart about frantically. Tears fill her eyes again, and she fans her heated face, giggling harder.

I can’t help but to laugh right along with her. No point in holding it in. She’s busted me. For real.

After our gigglefest, I sip water and clear my throat. I bring my gaze to hers, still bright with laughter and with a straight face, I answer her question.

“I have nothing to share.”

She holds my gaze for a moment, then throws her head back and guffaws. My lips twitch before I give in and laugh. She dabs her eyes and grins.

“Just say you don’t want to share. But I see you, my friend!”

With a nod of her head, she points her index and middle fingers at her eyes, then at mine.

“Go and get all gussied up for your soiree with Le Renard Argenté,” she says and continues with a wink. “I may leave early with some plans of my own.”

Hours later, Luc rings the doorbell of my hotel suite. I open the double doors and smile seductively. His eyes spark like the jewels they resemble as they trail over my body.

The gown skims my lithe figure and ends in a fishtail hem that cascades to the floor. Crystals form a pattern to mimic a chandelier on the moss green stretch silk jersey. Thin straps at the shoulders dip to a v-neckline offer a glimpse of my perky breasts.

Strappy sandals add five inches to my five feet, seven inches. Minimal makeup and my chestnut brown hair falls in a lush curtain to my shoulder blades complete my look.

I step back and allow him to enter.

“I’m ready. Let me get my handbag.”

With an exaggerated sway of my hips, I walk to the console. Feeling Luc’s eyes on my ass, I arc my back as I lift the colorful crystal minaud in the shape of a butterfly from the marble surface. I gasp when firm hands grip my hips and pull them back to meld my ass to a burgeoning erection. I wiggle them as I glance over my shoulder.

Luc’s hooded eyes greet mine. He smirks and growls against my ear.

“Oh, Little One, how you taunt me. Do you want to sit on a peppered derriere during our flight to Greenwich? Or will you behave?”

I consider my options, then yelp when he smacks my butt.

“I’ll decide for you. Behave,” he growls. “Stay as you are. I have a gift for you.”
