“You don’t say?” Sarcasm drips off my words. “Who was it?”

“Does it matter?”

“Of course, it matters!” I scoff.

But it really doesn’t. It could be the Queen of fucking England, and I’d still never be okay with him cheating.

When he doesn’t answer, I go on to ask, “Was it just the one time?”

His silence tells me everything I need to know.

“How long has it been going on?”

“A few weeks,” he mutters.

My blood boils beneath my skin. “So, I get hurt, and you suddenly find someone else to fuck? What, you refuse to bang a girl in a cast?”

“Refuse?” He laughs. “That’s hilarious, Jenna. You haven’t been in the mood since you got the cast!”

“I’m sorry, Justin. Having my life uprooted doesn’t exactly get me all hot and bothered.”

He throws his hands up in the air. “Jenna, I get that, and I would never push you, but it’s more than just the sex thing.”

Walking over to the chair, I take a seat since balancing on my good leg is starting to hurt.

“What are you talking about?” I ask.

“I’m talking about how I’ve been trying to be here for you, but you make it impossible. When the school said you would have to leave your dorm, I told you that you could move in here until you figured things out, but you’ve been insufferable ever since you got here. All you do is sulk.”

Oh, this guy has lost his mind.

He continues, “I understand you’re going through something, but that doesn’t give you the right to treat me like shit.”

My mouth hangs open. “I’m treating you like shit? You’re the one that’s been cheating.”

“And can you blame me? I found someone who listens to me—someone who asks about my day and is interested in what I have to say. Gina understands me, and she and I have something special.”

“Gina?” I ask. “Gina, the girl in your study group?”

He nods. “We’ve really been hitting it off.”

“I’m so glad you found someone new to study with, Justin. Maybe with her, you can actually pass anoralexam.”

That earns me an eye roll. “See? You hear something you don’t like, and your defenses fly up, and you turn into a total bitch.”

“Sorry, I get a little defensive when I’m being cheated on.”

“Let’s just end things here, Jenna. That way, you won’t be cheated on anymore.” He pauses for a second. “I’m crazy about you, but this just isn’t working.”

“Finally, you’re right about something, Justin,” I say while standing up and heading into the bedroom.

Glancing around, I’m glad most of my stuff is still in boxes. When Justin offered to have me move in here, I had a feeling it was a bad idea. But it sounded better than running back to my hometown of Grady, Tennessee, with my tail tucked between my legs. Moving back in with my Momma doesn’t sound all that exciting.

But knowing I’m out of options, I pick up the phone and make the phone call I never wanted to.

Before I hit CALL, I get a better idea and dial a different number instead.
