“My, my, you’re so charming every time I come to visit you,” she said with her childlike innocence radiating across the room.

“You look happier today,” I said, then inspected my outfit. “Surely, it’s not my outfit now, is it?”

“Actually, no, just looking at you is putting me in a different mood…a livelier one, that is,” she explained as she licked her fingers.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before, but this woman frightens me.

“It turns out that you don’t have to do much work when wooing my daughter,” she said.

“Let me guess, you told her about me, and she couldn’t hold herself back?” I said with a smirk.

“I honestly do not know what fuels your confidence, but I need to get myself acquainted with it,” she said. “Well, I met you in Myrtle Beach, remember?”

“Huh?”

What was she talking about?

“Oh, come on, you walked me to Aria’s office when I sprained my ankle,” she continued to speak.

“I…”

“It was strange, however. You seemed not to remember me or the fact that you’re trying to get engaged with my daughter,” she said. “But when I saw how madly in love you were with her, I was moved. You even boasted how you would make sure she chose you out of the other suitors.”

I wasn’t following at first…but now I understood.

She knew that Nick was alive.

I looked at my feet, and my fists tightened, “So you’ll tell everyone, won’t you?”

“Come off it, Blake,” she said. “Why would I want to ruin this perfect romance story?”

Trading Places Phase One Preparations

Blake

I was fucked. So fucked. And not in a good way, honestly.

How much did she know?

Do I feign ignorance?

What would happen then?

I scanned my head for as many answers as I could come up with, but I came up with nothing.

“So you’ll tell everyone, huh?” I asked as I accepted the most plausible action she would take.

Turning me in.

I had already started scanning my head for the perfect plan, and nothing was adding up. Maybe from prison bars, I could have someone silence her. I don’t know why but I had a feeling the idea wouldn’t work against her. I worried she might be the one finishing me off in prison.

“Come off it, Blake,” she said. “Why would I want to ruin this perfect romance story?”

When she asked that question, I was instantly reminded of the type of woman she was; unpredictable.

“I do not understand, ma’am,” I said.
